[DA2 spoilers] About Hawke's class

Does anybody else prefer non mage (warrior, rogue) Hawke?

I think that being a nonmage fits the tragedy of the game more than being a mage. You're ordinary human without no special power, thrown into the fire and now you have to deal with it somehow. We see other mage characters suffer in Kirkwall, but our mage Hawke never has to deal with these things personally. I know that much of the content has been cut from the game, but it just seems weird that the game has been marketed with Mage Hawke in mind, but in reality... nonmage has fewer issues than a mage.

What's your opinion on this? Do you prefer mage, warrior or rogue for your playthroughs?
