Poor colourblind accessibility options

I’m quite surprised how terribly implemented the colourblind accessibility options are.

For those of us who have quite bad colour vision issues, it’s so disappointing when we get to the colourblind options and instead of altering the important UI elements we have trouble seeing (like parry/block/dodge indicators), instead a weird filter gets applied to the entire game.

This is not what any of us actually want. We don’t want to play a game with all of the colours weirdly hue shifted that make skin look green or hair purple. This just makes it look like despite good intentions, you’ve simply not consulted with any actual colourblind people to make these settings. You’ve not asked or listened to what we actually need.

A lot of games implement the settings really well, where you can customise the UI elements (health bars / enemy-ally colours, dodge warnings, all of those things). Also the intensity of the colour changes because we all have differing degrees of deficiency. But it becomes obvious to us when the devs are clueless when we just get a crappy instagram type colour overlay that applies to every single thing in the game. The main disadvantage for colourblind people comes from not being able to distinguish objects - not seeing colours differently in the first place. That doesn’t bother me. I don’t care if a wall looks a different colour through my eyes than someone else’s. But when I have to rely on very faint dodge indicators that I can barely see - that’s where my eyes need a bit of help.

I have protanopia with mild deuteranopia which means I have very low red vision coupled with low green vision. The dodge indicators are almost impossible for me to see with all of the colourful chaos flashing on the screen during battles. They just seem way too faint and as a result the game is very hard to play. I’ve tried enabling the SFX for the warnings but again the audio just kind of blends in with the sound effects happening anyway so it hasn’t been of much help.
