Can't use my Steam purchases after recovering my hacked EA account
Hello everyone,
I would like to share my situation because I believe there is a gap in the current account linking policy that affects legitimate players.
A while ago, my PC was infected with malware. As a result, several of my online accounts were compromised, including my EA account, Instagram, Discord, and Ubisoft accounts.
The attacker gained access to my EA account without my permission. During that time, they used my account for activities that violated the EA User Agreement, resulting in a permanent ban.
Later, I contacted EA Support and successfully recovered my EA account after proving that I was the legitimate owner. I understand that the Terms of Service team reviewed my appeal and decided that the ban would remain. While I am disappointed, I respect that decision.
However, my issue today is not about removing the ban.
My Steam account is still permanently linked to that banned EA account.
Because of the permanent ban, the Connections page is locked, meaning I cannot unlink my Steam account myself. I contacted EA Support again and asked if they could simply unlink my Steam account so I could connect it to my current EA account.
Unfortunately, I was informed that this is against EA policy because unlinking the Steam account could be considered bypassing the relationship between the banned EA account and the linked platform account.
This leaves me in a situation where I cannot use EA games that I legally purchased on my own Steam account, including EA SPORTS FC 26, even though:
I recovered my EA account through EA Support.
I am the legitimate owner of both my Steam account and my current EA account.
I am not asking for the permanent ban to be removed.
I am not trying to bypass the Terms of Service decision.
I simply want to use the games I legally purchased on Steam with my active EA account.
I completely understand the importance of protecting fair play and enforcing EA's policies against cheating and account abuse.
However, I respectfully believe that situations involving verified account recovery after account compromise deserve a separate review process.
Currently, there appears to be no solution for players in this situation. Even after recovering ownership of the account, legitimate purchases remain permanently inaccessible because the linked Steam account cannot be moved.
I hope EA will consider reviewing this policy in the future, especially for verified account compromise cases where ownership has already been confirmed by EA Support.
Thank you for taking the time to read my experience.
I’m sorry to hear about what happened.
In this situation, it may be worth submitting another appeal and including as much information as possible to demonstrate that your account was compromised during that period. A separate appeal will be reviewed by a different member of the Terms of Service team.
