Thanks for the reports. Could you try the following workaround?

Log out of the EA app, make sure the "Sign me in as invisible" option is unchecked, and then log back in.

Tried that again as you suggested. "Sign in as invisbile" box is not selected (even toggled it off/on/off). After sign in, status still shows as Invisible. 

and I'm unable to select Online or Away

Hello, this appears to be related to a connection issue. Please clear the EA app cache through Help > App Recovery > Clear cache, then fully restart the EA app and the game. If it doesn't work, please follow our troubleshooting guide. Thanks!

Thanks but your suggestion does not work. I've even tried uninstalling the app (by administrator as well). I'm not running a VPN either.  I've had this problem for a month now.  I'm able to start and run the game within the app, only my status will not change from Invisible to Online (and it will not allow me to select Online either). We really need a fix for this issue. I've seen numerous posts with others having the same issue.
