Hello, everyone. The EA App now requires a 64 bit PC running Windows 10 or 11. MacOS running Catalina or newer is also supported.
I have a Win7 desktop computer that I've been playing all my Sims games on because I can't afford to go buy a new computer. Today I tried to log in and play like I always have and the EA desktop app wants to update, so I let it, only to find out that my Win7 is no longer being supported in the login app.
I think it's a pretty poor business model to assume that everyone has the money to burn and keep incessantly updating to each new version of Windows and then....after being with the Sims franchise since the onset and purchased every expansion and stuff pack....now I'm being told "oh, so sorry...you can't even access your games anymore....tough luck".....because when trying to install the 'update' it dumped me back to my desktop, indicating that Win7 is no longer supported.
I get that Win7 is dated, believe me, but to spend hundreds of dollars on all my EA games only to completely be denied the right to play them after buying this is nothing but ridiculous. If you don't want to continue support for Win7, that's fine, I can understand and respect that, but NO ONE should be denied the right to play what they've paid for and you should have left us with SOME recourse to play even if it was offline.

I want to access my games that I PAID for, without having to worry about what EA is supporting or not. If they don't want to support Win7, fine, but then stop trying to keep me from accessing what I've paid for by forcing me to use your app -- let me run the games without the app that you refuse to support. That would seem fair to me, given what it's cost us to support YOU all these years.
I do generally agree with you, that access shouldn't be denied to your games, especially since you are a paying customer. The problem is that EA keeps a branch in their internal system, that supports older Windows OS's. They probably reached a point, in which the people that play on W7 are 1% or less and decided that the branch will no longer need be supported. Since they are dropping the branch, this means that your EA app will no longer receive general and security updates and EA does not want that, which is why they removed it and now force you to make the switch. From a legal stand point, your only option is to upgrade.
If you wish to explore an alternative, that doesn't involve your wallet, you can go Jack Sparrow. It is either this or you have to instal Linux. I acknowledge no option is really "acceptable", but this is what you have.
Honestly, Speedster370BG, spare me the patronizing bullcrap. I work in the industry and there is ALWAYS an option that can allow those on older platforms to still get/play what they paid for, while also relieving them of the burden of pushing updates to that iteration. The onus of security then falls to those who play/still use their chosen OS. That said, while it might make sense for EA to abandon updates to Win7, then why force your customers to still use the gating platform to access, again, what they paid for. If they don't want to support it, fine, then allow your customers to use their purchased game(s) unimpeded by your gating platform. And trust me when I say EA has no horse in the race to 'force you to upgrade' when it comes to what version of Windows you use, it's purely what they choose to support, beyond that, they could clearly care less. Furthermore, with all due respect to those who choose to use Linux, offering the idea of installing a whole different OS, including, in some cases, having to use yet more additional software just to get some games to play, is hardly offering any kind of 'reasonable' solution whatsoever.
