I was playing Sims 4 when I got a message saying that I needed to restart my EA app and had 24 hours to do so. I went to desktop to click on the app shortcut, only for it to say "The item 'EALauncher.exe' that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly. Do you want to delete this shortcut?" And the logo has also disappeared, replaced by a blank sheet with a folded corner.My game is still working fine, when I go back into the game I can play it without issue. I'm loath to save and exit, though, as I can't seem to access the EA App launcher at all!

Thanks all for the tips. Tried to download app, but it was on my machine (just not working). Tried to uninstall, said no can do. Finally I tried to install again and then got a repair option which solved my issues. The game finished updating the patch and seems normal again. But for a while I was in a catch-22 situation!

I had the exact problem except now Sims won't open because EA and Steam were connected and EA has now completely disappeared, is there any way I can fix this?

Hi @0tieu1ivnj4p, what do you mean by EA has completed disappeared? Are you referring to the EA app itself?

I went to get the patch for Jan 16/24 but when I clicked on my EA app desktop icon it said it was outdated. Then I tried my desktop sims 4 icon and it said I needed to install Origin. But on the EA page even though I had deleted the EA desktop icon hoping the new one would appear (it didn't) I was informed that my EA app was installed on my computer. I cannot figure out how to get it back.

In addition when I restarted my computer I got a notice that "eaconnect.microsoft://launch? version = 1.08&port 4700 not on machine. I tried to restore the EA desktop from the recycling bin and while it seemed to be working nothing happened. My program files show two desktop icons for EA. One shows as outdated and one is new but when I try to copy the new one to my desktop I get a folder with content files that won't launch the game.

@susanleona The one on the desktop or if you have pinned is not the main one you have to use. Depending on where you have it installed, you can go to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop, and there is a 'EADesktop' icon in the folder you can drag to your desktop.

It may give a permissions prompt though. you can also run the updater from the same location.

If all else fails, you can simply download and install it again from the EA site.

The app has had an update, and seems to be having troubles retrieving it.
Here is how i fixed mine
go to C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop
And click the EAupdater.exe.
If you deleted your C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop folder you might need to restore it from the recycle bin first.
