Re: EA App Download Error - There's a Problem With Your Download

SOLVED: WORKAROUND

This method has been tested and confirmed to work for Mirror's Edge and Mirror's Edge Catalyst, but it probably works for all games in the EA catalog:

  1. Make sure your download queue is empty and close the EA App. You might want to reopen the app and double-check that it doesn't show a frozen download in progress, which kept happening to me while I was doing this. I also closed the EA Background Service in the Windows Task Manager, but I don't think that's necessary.

  2. In your EA Games directory (by default, this is C:/Program Files/EA Games), create a new folder with the same name as your game's normal installation directory. It's usually just the name of your game, but if you're not 100% sure what it is, you might be able to find it listed on your game's wiki article in the PC Gaming Wiki. Otherwise, there's no harm in trial and error, since the remaining steps take like 5 seconds.

  3. Inside the folder, right-click -> New -> Text Document

  4. Make sure you can see and edit file extensions. If your new file doesn't show ".txt" at the end of its name, then you need to open any folder in Windows and in the top bar: View -> Show -> File name extensions -> make sure this is checked

  5. Rename your new file to match exactly the name of the executable program from the game you're trying to download (e.g., "MirrorsEdge.exe"). The PC Gaming Wiki will almost certainly have this somewhere in your game's wiki article if you press Ctrl + F and search for ".exe".

  6. Relaunch the EA App. It should say that your game is already downloaded, but there's an "Update Required." Just ignore that. Instead, click the three dots in the top-right corner of the game icon and select "Repair".

  7. Once it's finished downloading, play the game 🙂

Since this is quite simular to the coping old game files and repairing this might indeed be an easier fix, though I hope EA will provide a real fix soon
But thank you just confirmed this with the Sims 4 download stuck at 14% just restarted the app via the 3 lines help and then App Recovery (closes the downloads as well 😉 )
After that create the folder and created the file GAMENAME.exe file and it's "installed"

Better then coping the whole game and great temp fix!!!

  • EA ain't even gonna bother fixing anything trust me. That's the reason everyone hates EA.

  • @sms7one3 EA should hire you man a whole company couldn't fix it! You are a man with amazing brain cells congrats!
  • No luck with this solution for PGA Tour as I can't find the .exe filename anywhere on the internet, appreciate the time you have put into this though!

Hope EA releases a fix soon.

Okay I understand the process you are describing, but what about when it comes to dlc. I was installing Dragon Age 2 and the game and about half the dlc installed just fine then I started having the error. Do I try creating a new addins folder in the directory or is there something else I should try.

I also had the 14% download problem for Battlefield 3. The solution: Change the "Region" in the EA App to (any) other region. I changed from Germany to Norway and it worked. It was pure randomness to have chosen Norway. It will be important that the server is reachable and has enough bandwidth. Update: I have downloaded the game and almost all addons (Limited Edition) so far. Only the Aftermath addon caused problems. Another time "server hopping" (this time "region" set to "Iceland") brought success. Especially for the Aftermath Addon I had to try several servers (unsuccessfully) until I found it in Iceland.

What method are we supposed to use for downloading expansion packs? Many of us already have the Sims 4 installed and working fine but cannot dowload a specific DLC pack for the game.
