Re: EA app Not Opening, X Icon Error on Win7 Since Dec. 2023

Hello everyone,


We appreciate those who have provided us with EA app logs so far. We encourage you to continue doing so.

  • Collect & share EA app logs, and add them to your post via these steps.

Although the EA app for Windows still supports Windows 7 (and above), there is the slight possibility of it occasionally malfunctioning due to the outdated operating system and lack of updates it receives from Microsoft and other relevant software. But don't worry, we may have found a solution for those experiencing the square EADesktop error message box marked by a red X.


We hope that trying to (re)install the following Visual Studio Redistributable, which is still compatible with Windows 7 and later, or Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and later, will solve this problem for you.

Update: We have received feedback from some of you that reinstalling the VC Redis packages didn't work as a workaround. The teams will continue to investigate the issue.

Alternatively, updating your operating system to a more recent and regularly updated Windows version should also incorporate this software by default. This will also include other security and performance improvements.

  • It still doesn't work.

    I have windows 10, fully updated. Still it gets the same error notification box with the cross in it. Never experienced these problems with Origin, only after the updating to the new launching server. So sad, also so dissapointing that the problem still isnt fixed after a whole year (looking at the threads)

    @EA_Leeuw,

    I was reading the logs trying to understand something in the meantime and I found this.

    "Install a driver providing OpenGL 2.0 or higher, or, if this is not possible, make sure the ANGLE Open GL ES 2.0 emulation libraries (libEGL.dll, libGLESv2.dll and d3dcompiler_*.dll) are available in the application executable's directory or in a location listed in PATH."

    My OpenGL is 3.1, DirectX is 11, and I checked if this files mentioned above are in Program Data files. Only d3dcompiler_*.dll is missing. Is it related to the problem? Hope this can help to the final diagnosis.

    @Goliath_GRE Not yet.. I'm still waiting for a response about the logs. Just this preliminary solution for Visual Studio, that didnt worked

  • i can't open my ea app, the app recovery, the app updater or the error reporter; they all come up with a grey box with no writing and just a red x. Tried doing all other steps such as cache etc but NOTHING has worked. Obviously extremely frustrating at the fact we've spent so much money on games and expansion packs that we can't even access to play! PLEASE fix this!

    UPDATE

    I installed Steam and as sims 4 is free to download i was able to get the game to open without EA Desktop (still needs to be installed though)

    I'm currently trying to work out how to get my DLC to work? on the main menu of the game it shows all the packs etc that i own however they are not in live mode, i'll feed back more info when i work it out!

    Does anyone have updated the ea app since it crashed?or still it hasnt given a new update.My only hope is a new update for the ea app maybe can fix it.

    I updated my EA App through EA Updater (which still works, oddly). The App was updated to version 13.96.0.5609 according to command prompt, but it still doesnt work... It's been a month without a solution.

  • I already update the app also from the ea updater successful but still the app doesnt working. Where is the EA guy what a * app with origin never had an issue.

    Hey all,

    Could you perhaps check if you have any available Windows 7 updates that still need to be installed? We're aware of the End of Support of Windows 7, but perhaps there are still some leftover Windows Updates that could solve the issue.

    Update: this seems to do the trick for some people. Please check if you still have some leftover Windows 7 updates that need to be installed, potentially specifically Windows 7 Update KB4539601.

    Hey @EA_Leeuw 

    I just checked if Windows has any updates, I updated it and now EA App worked again!! I don’t know what specific update is, but I think that after KB4539601 was installed, EA App started to work again. 

  • At last fixxed also after a month.I try to update them earlier nut the searching for update took for ever and i guess that nothing found so yesterday i press search update and leave it as long as it can ask so it took 15 minutes to show me updates so all fine .See you at the battlefields guys.
