Re: [FIXED] EA app blank & unpopulated window

Just in case it helps anyone else, here's the steps to copy with your invisible window (!) to install FIFA. Start by finding the area at top where the cursor turns into a carat, type in FIFA 23, press Enter, and then it's just a case of finding the right buttons further down. When there's two buttons close to each other, the cursor will change very briefly between them so you know when you're on the right one.

  • Thank you that’s useful as a workaround although I very much hope that EA don’t consider it a real solution to the problem!

  • I believe I have the same issue. The taskbar shows the app is running and if I right click/hit move on it it acts like it is moving a window around but none of the EA applications are visible. I uninstalled and reinstalled and same issue. Where did you get your logfile from?

  • I found the log file in c:\programdata\electronicarts I think.

If you Google that file name you’ll find an article that points you to it.

  • Additional observation for any devs who (hopefully) do read this and recognise it's a systemic problem ...

If the app window is functional but invisible, it suggests that the digital assets for the panel are not being found.

I've noticed that when the EA App is reinstalled, it creates a subfolder structure like this ...

    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\EA Desktop\EA Desktop

As you can see EA Desktop is listed twice.

Devs, is it possible your code is looking in the wrong place for its UI assets?

  • I don’t think that’s the problem as it works fine for a lot of people and worked fine for me with a fresh Windows 10 running in a VM.

I think the problem must be a conflict with something that’s been installed previously. I’m a programmer and have in the past installed things related to QT (which the EA app uses) as well as various Windows dev tools, so I assume it’s something to do with that.

I’m sure a fresh install of Windows would fix it but no way can I be bothered to do that for the sake of the EA app.

  • Good point - and I agree I sure won’t be reinstalling windows to fix something so localised to an individual vendor’s app. I never had this many problems with the Origin app.
