Steam games don't show up as installed in EA app - keep validating in Steam

Hello there,

I am finishing DA: Awakening after a long time and wanted to see whether DA2 would run as flawless as the prequel does after all those years and it doesn't! Instead it opens the EA app when clicking on "play" in Steam, Steam starts validating my game files, EA app loads something, closes after a bit and nothing happens.

I had the same issue before with other games, be that NfS or Jedi: Fallen Order. The games are being shown as bought through Steam on my ea app and they ask me to start them in steam. I already described what happens there.

I am on Windows 10 in case that is important.

I tried clearing the EA app cache, tried reinstalling the EA app, tried installing the games anew, nothing helped.

There seems so be some kind of detection problem because the EA app doesn't recognize my games bought on Steam as installed. Weirdly enough Dragon Age Origins is being shown as installed (that doesn't need the EA app and that I bought ironically on Steam not on Origin).

I would appreciate any directions to help or at least to collect the feedback, that there seems to be some issues in communications between those two softwares.

I attached my DxDiag for further information regarding my system.

Cheers

  • So to all the other people reading this, I fixed this by making exceptions for the folders inside my windows defender (and I turned off all start up programs completely - but that messed up the ea app! ("background programs crashed") and I turned the start up programs on again but kept the exceptions in the defender - and it worked! While not all games were initially detected as installed through EA app, starting the game through Steam resolved that issue.

Can you explain a little more of what you did exactly. I have the same problem. Thanks!
