My thoughts:
- The new forum must become much faster and more responsive. The time until a thread has loaded is like 30 years ago, especially on mobile phones.
- Let threads be organized with the newest post first by default. I see that most Simmers want a chronological order, but in long threads that would be impossible without page numbers. The current "Most liked" system is senseless.
- Don't hide multiple answers to a post, let them be visible all at once.
- Bring back custom avatars asap and hide the Hero signs. The system of selected Heroes makes sense at AHQ, but certainly not here. I predict that this two-class society will become toxic very soon.
I couldn't agree less with the newest first. It can be a chosen feature, but not default. Many of the threads here are stories, newest first is like starting to read a story backwards with the last chapter first. There is a reason why stories aren't built that way.
However, I do grant you that page numbers are needed, as well as skipping ahead to the last read comment automatically, so that if I had read a thread, I can start where I left off.I agree. Stories and detailed discussions really do need to be in chronological order. And they also need pages we can navigate back and forth through, and a way to jump straight to the last post we read.
The sort by newest first as default spoils stories. The sort by popularity as default results in random posts that aren't really discussions. Oldest first with good tools to move through the thread (pages, bookmarks, some way to save where we left off) would be best for the kinds of creative stuff that people on the Sims forum do.
