I received a message from an EA support representative, and they mentioned the following:
We have to have very strict account linking policies to help combat account hacking. I understand there are many people that don't have access to old accounts. I wish we had a better way to help recover these. Unfortunately, people will need to pass the current verification process we have in order to recover their account.
While I understand the need for strict account security, the current verification process is simply not working for a large number of players, and here’s why:
- IP address: Many of us have moved multiple times over the years, and changed PCs, modems, etc. So, of course, the IP address no longer matches, making verification impossible.
- Credit card number: Not everyone has a credit card linked to their EA account. This step is entirely useless for many players, including myself.
- Birthdate: The birthdate wasn’t a required field when many of us created our accounts. It simply wasn’t an option back then.
- Address: A lot of us never provided an address to EA, so this step doesn’t apply either.
These factors make it nearly impossible for us to pass the verification process. EA needs to come up with an alternative solution for cases like ours, where we simply cannot provide the requested details. All we’re asking for is a simple unlinking of old EA accounts, allowing us to link our current PSN/Xbox profiles to new accounts. It's not a complicated request, and it would solve the issue for the majority of players affected by this problem.
To add to this problem. It isn't nearly impossible it IS impossible to use their current recovery policy.
their current recovery policy requires 5 pieces of info. Origin accounts didn't require that during signup so tons of these accounts only have maybe 2 pieces (first name and email) I was able to confirm this by seeing my actual dead account on a system that was still logged in.
No phone number, last name etc. Couldn't change anything or see my purchase history because it requires 2FA to view. They also forced 2FA on those accounts because I sure didn't activate that, effectively a forced deadlock. EA purposely locked us out and then changed the policy to make it impossible to fix. This is absolute an EA screw up.
