EA Play trial - this trial can only be played on the account that downloaded it.

I receive the following error message when I attempt to play College Football 26 or Madden 26 that has been downloaded to my Xbox Series X from EA Play: “EA Play trial - this trial can only be played on the account that downloaded it. Please sign back into the account and restart the game to continue your progress.”

I restart my console, the server refreshes, and I am able to play a game. However, upon the game ending, the whole process restarts…

  • I’m getting the same error, this is ridiculous. Was on with an agent for 2 hours yesterday and they still couldn’t fix it.

It's happening with the full version both through Game pass and with cloud gaming. Since the first day it was on game pass it would prompt for the full version but we could just back out and continue to play. But for 4 days the "ok" to back out is gone and the game is completely unplayable for all game pass and cloud. I've tried 3 different xbox all with the same result, so it's not about an installation.

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for the reports -- this error is usually caused by the game being recognised as an EA Play trial instead of the full version, even if you’ve already purchased it.

There are a couple of things worth trying first on your end:

    • Launch the full game (not the trial version)
Make sure you’re starting the game from your owned library, not from the EA Play / Game Pass section.
    • Check which account is active
This trial message appears when the game is launched on a different account than the one that downloaded or owns the content.
    • Reinstall using the owned version
If the trial was installed first, uninstalling and reinstalling directly from the Store (owned edition) can help ensure the correct license is used.

If you’re still seeing this after trying the steps above -- especially if you’ve purchased the full game or Deluxe edition -- this will need to be looked into by support, as they’re the only ones who can review and fix account entitlements.

You can contact EA Help here: https://help.ea.com.

Same! What is the fix?! I purchased the NCAA outright. This needs to be fixed now!

I’m having the same problem. The restarting worked for me a couple times but now the notification pops up as soon as the game starts so I can’t play at all. Really ridiculous.

Getting the same error and it began once the game was put on Gamepass. But I bought the deluxe edition during release and never had an issue. I cant even load into the game anymore!
