Full control of the car in PITLANE

*It would be good if there was full control over the car from leaving the garage to stopping in the pits [as an option for those who want full realism].
*Fully manual drives through PITLANE and full control when stopping in the pit. The time would be determined by stopping appropriately in the tire changing area, not by pressing a button.
*Option to program the button for neutral gear N to eliminate accidental shifting of reverse gear when downshifting too quickly [as an option for those who want full realism].

  • @r083rtf1 @While I don’t think i would personally use it, I wouldn’t be against adding it for those that do.

that said, I do see some implementation problems. Teaching the AI what to do when the player behaves erratically in  the pitlane could prove problematic. Like what happens if the player crashes or tries to stop in the wrong box for example.

even though it seems like a simple feature I’d imagine there would need to be a surprising amount of code to cover every possible scenario which is probably why it hasn’t already been implemented.

  • I think it was 2010 when they did have it in some form (believe you had the control of turning the car as well as braking) but i think with the chaos of online racing it would be a disaster waiting to happen. While it adds to the realism i fear if someone intentionally crashes they could get away with it and the innocent person gets penalised

@Cpayne32 I can't remember if you could control the car in the pitlane or not in 2010, but what I do remember is there was a bug with the AI where if you did a flashback after the AI had already crossed the pit entry line it would keep it marked down as the car having completed its mandatory pitstop, and the flashback caused the AI car the back far enough out of pit lane where it could then proceed down the main straight the AI car could basically get away without having to pit.

I know this because Jarno Trulli once got third in the green Lotus (that were eventually renamed Caterham a few years later) in Valencia so I had to do some investigating as to how this happened because obviously, he should never have had the pace to do that naturally. Then I started noticing a bunch other funky results, so I googled it and found out it was an actual thing.

So, it was a mistake with the rewind feature, not with controlling the car in the pit lane. The rewind function just needs improvement. [Treating a single tooth rather than removing the entire jaw.]
