It's neither, it's considered "Simcade" so there is some obligation to try and recreate the real regulations. I would take any player drop with a grain salt because the battery was always going to be controversial just like IRL. If they removed it (or just nerfed it into irrelevance) then sure some of those people might stay, but others would leave citing a lack of realism.

It doesn't have to be a bug to balance a game. Especially if most of your player base is crying out for it to be re-balanced......
Bug vs Balance is largely semantics in this situation. For the record, I agree with you that it's a problem and they should address it. The point I was trying to make was that we've already brought this issue up, they investigated it and determined that everything was working as intended. Although I personally don't agree with that determination, there is a 0% chance changes are coming, so I would get used to the idea of having to change the difficulty between Quali and the race.

I agree it's going to make battery management more annoying but apparently, it's a thing in the real regulations.
- They also updated the deployments post Miami in the real regulations, that did not seem to translate over with this 10% lift. Also, this is not a simulator, it is an Arcade game. After watching from what I've seen at least 50% of the game's player base leaving, all citing the difficulty of the batt management as the reason.... The solution is to then release a patch that makes that even more difficult? There is no logic there.
Unfortunatly they already said they don't consider it a bug. AI Difficulty Broken: Infinite ERS and Slow Race Pace | EA Forums - 13491561 - Again, this is not a simulator. It doesn't have to be a bug to balance a game. Especially if most of your player base is crying out for it to be re-balanced......

Worst update of any f1 game ive played so far... it's tiring at this point. It's obvious at this point that codies onyl playtest the game on a 5 lap race with AI at 30 to make sure that the game runs and that's it. Battery changes at awful, but well, if that is the way f1 works IRL then so be it, but its amazing how no one even plays the game before shipping. AI is still turbo omega OP on qualy and devs saying "not a bug" is laughable. Only because something is working as coded doesnt mean its right. Like ofc i like being forced to start last because AI its literally perfect with the battery just to run past them on race pace.
And well, lets not mention the fact that calendar is still not customizable, cant toggle off sprint weekend, cant select imola on career 2026, and the penalty system is still 2 warnings + penalty instead of the IRL 3 warnings + pentalty. ALL OF THESE THINGS CAN BE CHANGED USING A DATABASE EDITOR BTW. They clearly can but hey, they dont even bother adding macarena wings on redbull and mclaren so xd. At this point just let the modders do their thing and dont even bother "updating" the game. If codies are (seemingly) going to employ just a couple of people keeping the game "alive" until the 27 game drops, we have a higher chance of playing a good game with some indie nonlicensed game than this "official" nonsense

Done some test races with the new battery management and it feels good to me. I haven’t found one time so far where ive got to the end of a lap without maxing out on the harvesting.
The 2026 F2 cars are very fun to drive as well

Wow, seems like they've just ignored an awful lot.
For example asking for the Clean Lap banner to be removed in GP mode. Wow.

Idk buddy, sounds like skill issue. They've made it more realistic, that's it
Now that I played a bit, I can allign myself with most of the other commenters here to say that I dislike the changes. Pretty sure it's aimed at casuals so they don't have to do any or very little management, but yeah... not fun for those who do put in the effort to learn and enjoy those things.
The FFB change can be felt but doesn't seem to make that much of a difference so still unsure of its purpose and would like some clarification.
The update for the battery under low grip condition is good but the reduction of recharge & SM mode deactivation (since they are linked) I cannot enjoy at all. Realism is good but we don't have 1000s of engineers behind us that program all of that automatically, and having to switch modes 20/30+ times a lap is not enjoyable.
I won't speak on other possible issues like AI and driver ratings etc as I don't really play those modes, I however would definitely appreciate an easy way to see the available liveries and how to obtain them, perhaps displaying their unlock requirements in the menu where the player chooses a car in GP modes ?
Also as a previous controller player, you HAVE to do something for them or even acknowledge their struggles. This is really insulting to them with how long their issues have stayed relevant.

You're absolutely right!
It makes you wonder if they're just making fools of the people playing this game!
Unlike in real life, Williams is just way too fast!
That means other teams miss out on scoring points!
It’s completely unrealistic and no fun at all!
Also, I’d like them to make Mercedes and Ferrari a bit faster and slow McLaren down!
They updated the driver ratings around this time last year, didn't they?
Why aren't they updating them this year?!
Are they slacking off?!
