For players who think they are doing very well hitting me off the track in ranked multiplayer first of all you will not receive ranking points yourself and second of all I just play ranked, not to reach any silver, gold or elite, but only to get data I can use in the garage to upgrade my car. Only fast and fair drivers, luckyly, receive ranking points.
I can attest that knocking someone off won't necessarily mean zero points. For the first time, I was in a lobby with someone in my same tier. They did the old brake check taking off my wing, they scored 6 points that race. The next race that player was in the same lobby again, I was prepared for the brake check but as I passed by he did the fast swerve knocking me out again, again they got 5 points that race. Now maybe they would have gotten more but I doubt it given it was the elite level. My question was how in the world did they get to Elite? Also, I have finished first out of several races, second on many, no incidents, and scored zero points. It is very confusing. Sometimes Ranked is worse than open lobbies.

The whole ranking from bronze to gold and Elite doesn"t tell anything at all of the driving skills from the players. Answering your question how in the world they get to Elite is simple. Any race you drive with 0-0 wing (which is impossible in real car except for some circuits), you enable all assists so you have only to steer and hold the full throttle, and if possible you enable the best scripts for example in Cronus Zen and there you go to high ranking. You just let the AI do as much as possible.
