Feature Suggestion: Official Mod Support for F1 Games on Consoles

Hello EA and the F1 development team!

I would like to suggest introducing official mod support for the console versions of F1 games, including F1 25 and future releases such as F1 27.

Currently, PC players can enjoy a wide variety of community-created modifications, including historical seasons, custom liveries, car models, and other creative projects. Unfortunately, console players cannot access most of these modifications because consoles restrict direct access to game files.

My suggestion is to introduce an official in-game mod browser or community workshop for PlayStation and Xbox, similar in concept to Steam Workshop or the official mod browser available in some other games.

Possible features could include:

  • Historical seasons: Play career modes based on previous Formula 1 seasons, with period-appropriate liveries, cars, and driver line-ups.
  • Community liveries: Browse and download custom designs created by players.
  • Community-created content: Give players more ways to customize their experience through approved modifications.
  • Moderation and compatibility checks: Ensure that downloadable content meets platform requirements and does not compromise console security.

One example that inspired this suggestion is the Progressive Career modification for F1 25, which allows players to progress through different Formula 1 seasons. It would be exciting to experience something similar on consoles without needing a gaming PC.

I understand that implementing this feature would require significant development work, technical limitations to be considered, and coordination with console platform holders. However, an official and moderated system could provide console players with more customization options while keeping the experience safe and accessible.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I would love to hear what other players think about this idea!

  • While it's a cool idea, I don't see it happening.

Microsoft/ Sony only allow developers to enable mods if the developers agree to personally verify and accept liability for the mods. Most corporate lawyers are going to advise against this which is why console games rarely have mods.

For EA/CM it even goes a step further unfortunately. Since most of the mods people would be uploading would likely be classic cars/ tracks/ drivers it would open up a whole host of licensing issues and probably draw the ire of the FOM/ FIA.

As much as I would love to see official support for mods, it feels very unlikely IMO.
