Yes, if you play on steam you also have to link your steam account to origin. Origin needs to be running while you play. Hopefully online is a better experience this year.
Are you sure?
There is a note on origin website.
A note to our Origin players: We’re excited to bring F1® 22 to Origin for the first time. At launch, players on Origin will be able to compete with EA Play members and trial players. Cross-play for Origin players will be added post-launch so you can play with your friends across all platforms.

Check the steam page, it says you have to link your steam and origin accounts. So surly they will be able to play multiplayer together.

Hey everyone,
Origin and Steam will not be able to play online together. When crossplay is introduced later in development, then all platforms can play together in supported crossplay modes (Social Play and Two-Player Career modes)

- @EA_rephii Invites at least won't work. Directs to the store page if you own it on a different launcher. No idea on server browser as there is no lobbies currently

Nice thank you for the answer
@EA_rephiiReally? Well.. that was more than €100 out of the window on two Origin copies of F1 22. Great.
But why does the Steam edition require Origin + EA account then, if it isn't possible to play together anyways?RIP anyone who plays in a league and bought the game via the wrong platform. What a joke
"happy launch day"
How ironic
