My Team/Career Racers… I your need help!!!

Ok a came across a bug report the other day that made me go hmmmm.

Straight away I knew it could be a issue. As last year there were reports off similar issues relating to R&D upgrades. Plus occasionally I felt the difference. Problem is despite the 1000s off hours I put into My Team. I don’t take any notice off my lap times. I set the car up based on how it feels. Providing I’m within a half second off those teams in closest in the rankings during practice. I’m happy.

But there are some things during race it’s impossible not to know. Like top end speed on the straights.

So please I really need you guys who do take note off your sector times, lap times etc. And who are consistent lap after lap.

I finally got to test this issue as I got a major drag reduction upgrade before Australia. After doing race program in FP1. I restarted the session and redone race strategy using exact same setup and noticed straight after straight lap after lap my top speed was 2MPH faster. Only time it occasionally fluctuates was on the new back straight. But I was also lapping 3-5 tenths faster than my fastest lap in the previous race program.

I’m sure this is a issue but as we know nothing gets investigated unless enough people report the same issue.

I don't think this will help as I don't keep an eye on times from upgrade to upgrade, but I do record my Race strat from season to season.

Bahrain season 1 Bahrain season 3
Average Lap time 1.33.6 1.31.6
Tyre Wear 1.16 1.03
Actual fuel 1.76 1.74
total fuel 53.60 50.51

So upgrades are working, but if a specific one isn't I won't notice, will try and keep am eye on it.

I am not very consistent and I usually lift before I hit the end of straights (fuel saving).
But I will try to run some tests and will post results here.

@ScarDuck14Since I’ve set myself up with a tracking sheet I should be able to help see if lap time reduce if the session/ practice program is restarted. I don’t track upgrades though, so if there’s a situation where only one upgrade comes in before a race weekend I might remember to track it 🤞🏽

@DRudd13 As the op in the linked thread says. It’s just Drag reduction upgrades. Hard to know about the other upgrades as the gains will be to handling, acceleration, etc etc.

But drag reduction upgrades will have a tiny but noticeable effect on top speed. And after restarting a session like the op I’ve noticed 1-2Mph increase in top end speed on the straights.

It reminds off last year when doing practice programs. Quite often you wouldn’t get awarded the discount bonus on parts even when positively sure you kept to racing line or used drs in all zones. This mainly happened in FP1. So I found when it didn’t give me the bonus. If I went back to garage and restarted session. I got the bonus first time every time

I noticed similar thing with tyre temp requirement during practice programmes. But I thought I exceeded the temp and I didn't spot it on tyre temp tab so that was the reason I didn't get upgrade discount awarded.
However, I noticed that sometimes I get "tyre temp under 112" when I hit the programme for first time but next attempt is changed to "tyre temp under 118".

@ScarDuck14I have a spreadsheet where I keep track of my AI lvl, results, best lap times, track conditions and do some basic stats out of it. I can grant you access to it if you want.

That’s not necessary. Would like to know if it is as I’ve said.

As this is a big issue that could be easily missed. And if you don’t restart to apply a new drag upgrade. Will it be fitted after race weekend or will it be lost?

So any time you get a new drag upgrade before a race if you have the time. See what your speed tops out at. Go to garage and then restart session and then see if your any faster.

I will only be 3ish mph faster if it works

@ScarDuck14 So got a minor drag upgrade before Imola., first practice went on track race program . 2 laps 200- 202Mph before breaking into corner one/

Restarted session did all 5 laps 206-208mph. I don’t think I’ve ever been that quick at imola this early into my car’s development Things that make you go hmm

I've just completed Dutch GP in MT.
Only have one minor Drag Red but I followed @johnmaha7's scenario.
I was doing 296-298kph in first run of Race Strategy in speed trap. 2nd run after restarting session yielded 304-306kph.
I didn't use DRS or ERS in both cases, no slip stream either.
I have a major Drag Red upgrade lined up (Side Pods) so I'll test it again in few races.

8 kph difference with a minor drag reduction? That's even worse than my experience in Baku with 0-0 wings. It means the effects are even more pronounced the more wing the setup has. No wonder we can't keep up with the AI in the straights.
