Started a career in AlphaTauri. Race 1 Bahrain: mechanical failure forces my retirement on lap 14 halfway through the race. I was outperforming the car at level 75 reaching p6-7 easily.
Race 3 Australia: raised the level to 80 to try and make it more realistic and the game forces me to retire again on lap 5 when I was on p5.
Both were an electrical system failure so I was forced to mount the 3rd additional part, I will have a grid drop penalty.
I'm feeling frustrated!
I’m now in season 2 of My Team and noticed something really odd at the end of season 1 and just found it again at Spa.
In Brazil in season 1 the race changed from dry to wet towards the end. In the dry I was running in the top 10 but the AI were gaining over 1s on the back straight alone even without DRS (kind of expected considering my car had low development at this stage). When the rain came I switched to inters at the same time as the AI and was doing fine for a few laps, but as the track got more wet I was struggling more and more just to keep the car on the track. I had AI cars overtaking me for fun, I had zero traction out of the corners and was spinning in 5th gear.
When I asked for a weather update I would be told full wets are fastest tyre but the AI were flying on inters.
I just had a race in Spa in season 2, the forecast was for a wet start, then changing to dry and then back to wet…….I started in about 5th on inters (some of the AI had taken penalties) and was keeping this position fairly comfortably up to the first stop for dries. I think I did about 5-laps on the softs before the rain started coming down again and I pitted for inters like the AI. But after 4 or 5 laps of wet racing the rain increased and again I had zero traction, I couldn’t go on full throttle until at least 6th gear. But the AI were simply flying around the corners like it was still a dry race.
In dry or intermediate conditions and can compete with the AI but as soon as the weather crosses over to full wet racing the AI still have maximum grip and traction while I’m sliding all over the place.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@VibrantMass616 Hey. Do you have tyre temps set to carcass and surface. If you do. You need to change it to surface only. The ai no longer suffer from carcass temps. So there tyres are always at optimal temperatures. Yours will most likely be to cold. Hence lack off traction.
By having tyres set to carcass and surface your severely handicapped against the ai on tracks and/or in conditions that tyre temps are a issue - 3 years ago

Yes I have carcass and surface temperatures set. I did see someone mention in a previous post about changing this setting to surface temperature only which I'll try later (Zandvoort next and it's another wet to dry race.......).
It's really annoying though that we have to keep changing our settings just to compete against the AI in My Team. I set the AI to 90 and I keep that for every track, I can hold my own in most races but then places like Hungary and Spain the AI seem much stronger and I struggle.
I really don't want to start messing around with the temperature settings as i run with no assists and this to me seems a bit of an assist but the alternative is to finish last in every full wet race. As someone mentioned earlier a game like this is supposed to be fun and bugs like this take the fun out of it.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@VibrantMass616 Both Hungary and Spain overheat human players tyres. Hungary I was getting destroyed by ai until I had a 💡 moment and tried with surface only and all was fine after.
Yes it’s annoying and frustrating but it’s the best viable workaround as I can’t see the devs fixing it for this year - 3 years ago@ScarDuck14 I'll give it a go tonight and report back 😁

@VibrantMass616
As @ScarDuck14 mentioned, your experiences in the rain vs. the AIs are probably related to tyre temps, which are super important in this game and if you don't have a car setup with proper tyre pressure values (which will determine how your tyre temps will behave during the race) you may lose grip and struggle to keep control of the car - at the same time, there's also the BS and cheating way of how the AIs are scripted/programmed to ALWAYS keep their tyre temps at the perfect range and that's why they never struggle, especially in the wet, where the human players tend to struggle the most - sadly, this leads to some unrealistic and even absurd scenarios where the AIs can be super fast on Inters even when the track/weather is clearly for Full Wets and sometimes the player is told by the game to put Full Wets, while the AIs keep kicking our 4$$es on Inters..One of the solutions is to do as ScarDuck suggested and set the game/tyre temp options to surface only (but I'd still suggest you to try and work on your car setups to make sure your carcass tyre temps are on the ideal range for the most part - that's between 90-100 ºC for dry tyres and around 70-80 for Inters and around 60-70 for Full Wets - anything below or above these ranges will make you lose grip), or hope the devs work on the AIs and make them better/more realistic on this regard (with their tyre temps - both carcass and surface - variating and 'floating' up and down a bit more, exactly as it happens to the human players) for future games..
- 3 years ago@SexyBrigadeiro Thanks for the information.
I’m generally good at keeping my tyres within the correct temperature windows in the dry/intermediate/full wet conditions and use the practice sessions to get the set-up correct while doing the development boosts. I then raise the tyre pressures two or three clicks for qualifying.
But the issue seems to be when the conditions change from intermediates to full wets and the AI stay on the intermediates without losing tyre temp. In the intermediate conditions I can maintain a gap to the cars ahead and behind but as the rain gets heavier, I can’t get the traction to drive fast enough to keep my tyres at the correct temperature. The AI start closing on me by +1s a lap and as conditions get worse, the pace differential just keeps increasing.
I’m having to completely lift off going round a corner and slowly accelerate when my wheels are straight while short-shifting up to about 6th gear and then I can go full throttle but the AI are flying past me like it’s a dry race. I don’t think there is anything I can do in my set-up to overcome that difference in performance. I’ve had races in full wet conditions and my pace has been similar/better than the AI around me but it’s when it’s this crossover point they’re on steroids.
I really hope this gets fixed as I don’t use any assists (except the occasional Flashback) and turning off carcass temperatures feels like I’m using an assist. - ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@VibrantMass616 There’s also the new gearing meta. 2nd gear corners are better taken in 3rd or 4th. Helps massively with traction and speed out off slow corners. It doesn’t mirror real life. It’s just how it is unfortunately

So I did a 50% race in Zandvoort last night, the forecast was for the first 18-laps to be wet and the last 18-laps to be dry.
I switched the tyre temperatures from carcass and surface to just surface as suggested. I qualified in 10th in the dry which was an odd experience as I didn’t have to prepare my tyres and I could do two quick laps as my tyres weren’t wearing as much.
At the race start I gained a couple of places and managed to easily maintain my position with my tyre temperatures remaining stable the whole time. My lap times were about 0.3s off the leading cars which given the difference in development I was happy with. The issues I’ve had in previous races seem to be when the intermediate conditions change to full wet but as that didn’t happen in this race I can’t say for certain this is a fix but my initial thoughts are it was a big improvement.
When conditions changed to dry after about 12-laps I changed to softs and then mediums and I was absolutely flying and finished 4th with my first fastest lap of this My Team series. The problem is driving in the dry with surface temperatures only felt a little artificial, it was almost like driving 24-laps in time trial as I didn’t have to worry about tyre temperatures and I could keep pushing 100% every lap.
I think I’ll change back to carcass and surface temperatures for dry races and use surface only just for wet races.
Thanks for your help.

Glad to hear it helped and I completely understand how you feel about the 'artificiality' of this..
I also struggle a lot with the AIs, for I like(d) to race against them at 100%, which in this game is pretty much impossible to me and then I had to lower them to 95, or 90, or even 85 in some tracks/situations, depending on how developed my car and their cars are - and the particular aspect of the tyre temps and how important they are in this game, while at the same time the AIs being able to maintain their tyre temps on a constant and perfect range, doesn't help much and make things even worse..
So, sadly, in the end we're left with a bunch of 'artificial workarounds', or we simply have to lower the AIs and accept that this year's game is a little big mess - which is a shame, given the fact that it had/has so much potential and EA is obviously a big video game company, but messes up more than they should in some of their games 'here and there' - and sadly, they dropped the ball hard with F1 22..
I don't think they're 'fixing' the AIs for this game anymore - they made a few 'improvements' since the game was launched, but that wasn't enough and I don't think they'd do anything else in this regard, so we can only hope that they are listening to the players and that they make better AIs (more fair, more 'realistic', etc) in the next game - playing the career modes in this one has been a pain in the butt..

Just to offer a bit of perspective to Codemasters AI programming, it seems like that it has been a bit of a mess this year (where I think it's actually the AI team not working with the physics team closely), we could be left with Gran Turismo levels of AI. The programming of AI from other racing games is so lacking, we do actually have to commend Codemasters for at least trying to do a good job in comparison. Whenever there is a change needed for AI in the previous games at least, it required a lot of time and work to get it "right". Not saying it's great, but we could have lazy Polyphony levels here 😅 Until they release Skynet/Sophy...
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@TotosHeadphones I said to Meza it feels like the ai devs did there bit. Greco dude did his. Controller guys did theres and game devs did there’s. Then the day before release they stuck them altogether and sent it. 😂
Skynet😂. Must admit Sophy looks amazing. But Sony did put Sony Ai department together with polyphony to work on it with the use off Sonys super computers a massive budget and it’s been worked on for almost 10 years. But unless someone else pulls something out off the bag. Sophy will be used in every racing game.. As Sony have said it won’t be just Available to their developers - SexyBrigadeiro3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@TotosHeadphones @ScarDuck14
I'm pretty sure everybody did their bit and it's very easy to any one of us to come here and just complain and criticize - especially when I know jack * about programming/coding (lol) - BUT.. whatever they did - and I'm saying this as just a player (one of the guys who buys the game and turns it on to try and have some fun, instead of getting super mad and frustrated with a bunch of things that just doesn't work properly - who's opinion (not just mine, but the overall player base) is or should be EXTREMELY important to the devs and to the Company), it's just NOT satisfactory and the final result is still a bit too messy and the AIs are especially bad (overall) this year - they actually did better on that particular department in previous years - so.. jah..Once again, I hope they make it all better for the next one(s), for I lost pretty much all of my hope they would fix/improve things for the current game on this regard (AIs)..
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@SexyBrigadeiro Even now I prefer the ai how they were on release.. I loved the bonkers dive bombs and ai going wheel to wheel with eachother. And the big crashes🤘
But I’m a gamer and not a racer 😀 - SexyBrigadeiro3 years agoSeasoned Ace@ScarDuck14 I liked them being more aggressive and less passive as they used to be, BUT that also needed (needs) some adjustment, because they can still ignore the player's car presence and cause stupid (and unsportsmanlike) crashes, which makes the game just unfair to the players.
And my main complaints about the AIs are related to their physics and how they can 'break' those rules (the game physics) in ways that the human player just can't, which also makes racing against them unfair and as I said several times before, it feels like competing against cheaters and there's no fun if all you get is BS from them..
I think the devs pointed the game in the right direction in terms of what they wanted to do with the AIs, but I also think it was just badly/poorly executed and it actually doesn't work that well at the end of the day..
The problem is not WHAT they did, but HOW they did it, I think.

Check the picture below.
Note where I am in the performance rankings.
Not the 3 failed upgrades. Despite all having a failure rate off 10ish percent.
It’s not a issue In the scheme off things. And that’s the point after practice I will enough enough point to upgrade them them before the next race. So what’s the point off the game forcefully nerfing
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend
And the following 2 fail both again 10-12% failure chance.
I smell a rat 🙄

Also is it me or does it seem that your always just a few resource points short to the R&D part you want
- 3 years ago@SexyBrigadeiro
I think one of the worst aspects of AI behaviour that rarely gets mentioned is in qualifying when you’re trying to warm your tyres up. They keep hovering behind you while you’re weaving and then they’ll suddenly dive down your inside as you go round a corner. If you manage to avoid them, they then sit right in front you going as slow as possible which spoils your preparation. If you manage to stay ahead before the start of your lap you then have an AI car breathing down your neck and divebombing you into corners which ruins your lap.
Anyway, I finished season 2 of My Team in great form, won a couple of races and finished top five in others, fastest laps etc. Has a few wet races where the surface temperature only seemed to work a treat.
Started season 3 and I think I now have the third best car on the grid. Went to Bahrain for the first race of the season and I can’t pass any of the practice programmes, I’m over a second off the target lap times using the same set-up I’ve always used at Bahrain. I did a qualifying sim at the end of FP1 and I’m 1s slower than my team-mate (Pourchair) who only scored about three points in season 2. The graphic which shows you where you’re losing time is red on all the straights.
I thought maybe I’m doing something wrong so went into Grand Prix mode and did a 50% race as Perez using the same set-up, 90% AI as in My Team and qualified in 1st by 0.3s and finished the race 2nd. So it looks like the AI are OP on the straights in Season 3 of My Team. I really don’t think I can be bothered to go through another season of battling away with Magnusson and Schumacher again. - SexyBrigadeiro3 years agoSeasoned Ace@VibrantMass616 The difficulty of the practice programs - the goals you need to achieve - is based on where your team sits on the team order, so.. the higher/better you are, the harder those goals are gonna be - you have the 3rd best car now, so that means the programs goals are gonna be harder for you.
One thing to make them easier, no matter how good or bad your car is, is to set the AIs to 50% (or less) during the FP sessions - that brings the programs goals down and they're pretty easy to reach - then you increase the AIs back to the desired level for the Quali and Race sessions - this is what I do myself - OR.. you simply go for the Quick Practice and don't even step on the track..
The fact is that the practice programs goals are hard to achieve if you keep the AIs on the same level you use in the Quali and Race sessions, especially if your team/car is one of the best ones.
You can also lower the AI level for the Pirelli Hotlap challenges and that also helps to get gold (1k acclaim + 100k cash). - TotosHeadphones3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@VibrantMass616 If F1 22 follows previous iterations of the game, AI increases in third season of My Team and every season after. Youtuber Alex Gillon tested it and found that in F1 2021, AI speed increased by 0.300 seconds without the car being upgraded. So it was suggested to decrease AI level by 3 points at start of the season. If F1 22 is just a carry on from F1 2021 it's likely that it's the same scenario, don't be ashamed to lower the OP AI!
Edit: Also, are you overheating the tyres? Does the fully upgraded car eat the front tyres like it did in F1 2021?

In Season 2 I was qualifying comfortably in the top 8 for the first 75% of the season with a midrange car. Towards the end of the season I had some major upgrades and my car was 3rd or 4th best, I was still easily completing the practice programmes and qualifying in the top 4-6 about 1s faster than my team-mate Pouchaire. I won a few races and was finishing on the podium in others.
I tried Bahrain again last night with the same settings as last season (90% AI) and in the ‘race strategy’ programme I could only hit the target lap time in two out of the five laps, by changing ERS to ‘hotlap’ on those laps and then recharging. I did a soft tyre run at the end and I was 0.5s slower than Pouchair and was slightly ahead of Latifi.
I finished the programmes using the quick practice (I usually do FP1 just to acclimatise to the track) and then qualifying. After my first qualifying run I was 22nd and over 0.5s slower than Pouchair, I did a final run right at the end and scraped into the top 10. I haven’t done the race yet and not sure whether I will.
I understand I can lower the AI difficulty etc but for me this is another pain in the butt, I just want to set the race difficulty at the start of the season and leave it like that. Because I have to play when I get free time around my family, it’s easy to change a setting for practice or qualifying and then go back later to do the race and forget to change it back. Same with changing the tyre temperatures to ‘surface only’ when it’s wet.

Yes you're right, I remember season 3 and season 6 in F1 2021 being very difficult too. It wouldn't surprise me if this years game has the same faults as there seems to be a lot of 'copy and paste' about it.
Overheating the tyres is also a good point but when I was struggling in the practice programmes over the weekend I changed tyre temperatures to surface only as I thought this might be the case but it didn't really help.
I probably do need to swallow my pride and just lower the AI a few clicks but on the other hand I think why bother, I can do the same races plus more in 'Grand Prix' mode without having to keep messing around with the AI level and with realistic car perfromance (my brakes are shocking after the last upgrade).
- TotosHeadphones3 years agoSeasoned Ace
@VibrantMass616I'm actually saying that technically you have to lower the AI because of Codemasters putting in a hard coded 0.300 sec speed increase to AI without taking into accounts the upgrades on the car for season 3. It was done in the last games to make sure it doesn't get stale. Just take off 3 points at the start of the season and you're done
Edit: just seen your reply as I was replying your previous comment. F1 games from Codemasters seem to be about compromising your own ego to enjoy them 😂
Grand Prix mode doesn't have ever changing stats to drivers and cars so the AI level will always stay the same.
