Hey Monzie, long time no see mate.
Been following this thread and my question is: can we translate all this data into the somewhat limited setup options in F1?
Please don't get mo wrong - all this data is truly beautiful and I love data - but can we make something really useful out of it in F1 games?
Bet the chances are higher in ACC or iRacing.
Hey @dancrodrigues hope you’re good too mate - good to be back 👍🏽
It’s a good point you make. I guess it’s a case of understanding what the data shows and I’m pretty sure even with the limited options there will be things you feel/notice that can be observed in the data that can then be corrected by some combination of setup changes - see my example below.
There’s a lot of data points so I’d love to understand it to see if there are some setup changes I could make - my main barrier is knowing the data points and then knowing what setup things relate to them.
That being said, I’m happy with pretty much all my track specific setups that I’ve developed from a “feel” perspective. But having said that, I haven’t taken this to the extreme, I just find something I’m fairly comfortable with and go. But I have, for example, set camber a click either side of my setting the feeling is pretty much the same, so maybe I’ll see something in the data to make that decision, as maybe there is something to be gained, if you understand what I mean.
Example; I have noticed is when the tyres get toward the end of the stint and Jeff comes on saying “you might experience grip loss” - I know I’m going to start to lose rear grip, so I increase the diff and it stabilises it a bit. I’m yet to look if I can see that in the data (not sure where to look, maybe in wheel speed or something) but if I could back up what I feel with data - that’d be pretty cool.
