PS5: Menu's causing fan to speed up to max and show overheating error.

Ok it seems we have the same problem with EAFC 24 that we had with FIFA 23, during certain menu's the fan in the PS5 sounds like its a jet engine taking off and then shortly after we are presented with an overheating error message, once this message pops up for the third time the PS5 will shut down.

PS5 is the disc version.
EAFC 24 is the digital version.

Things that i've tried and do not work:

Having the PS5 horizontal.
Having the PS5 vertical.
Having an additional external fan cooling the PS5 down.
Cleaning the PS5 of dust.
Playing without the PS5 covers on.
Returning the PS5 under warranty and getting a replacement (Sony actually replaced my Digital PS5 with the Disc version of the PS5 and this happens on both).
Happens on both Digital and Disc versions of the game.

I'm sure there are a few more things i've tried that i've forgotten and not mentioned but the above seem to be the common solutions people throw at this, however they do not work.

FIFA 23 & EAFC 24 are the ONLY games i experience this with, no other game i've played presents this overheating issue.

Ok so the menu screen's this issue happens on are as follows:

FIFA 23 - When does this occur?
Playing Pro Clubs mode - During the Half-time menu's the fan will speed up to max and an overheating message will appear.
Playing Pro Clubs mode - During the post-match menu's the fan will speed up to max and an overeating message will appear.


EAFC 24 - When does this occur?
Main menu
Pause menu during matches.
Ultimate Team - Moments - Football 101 - Passing #1 - Upon completing the very first moments scenario (Complete 10 passes), the post-match "Success!" menu would appear. Fan goes to max. Overheating error appears. EDIT: Happens at the end of each successful moments scenario on the "Success" menu.
Volta - Play x1 volta match and when it takes you back to the main volta menu, the fan will speed up to max and eventually an overheating error will appear.
Volta - Play x1 volta match and when your searching to go into the next match the fan will speed up to max and eventually an overheating error will appear.
Pro Clubs - Edit V Pro > Kit > Shoes/Boots > Pressing L3 to zoom into boot selection sometimes causes this issue.
Pro Clubs - During a match when a penalty kick or shootout is about to be taken, the fan ramps up to full speed, console shuts off.
Pro Clubs & UT - Whilst taking a corner kick.
Pro Clubs & UT - Whilst celebrating a goal during the cutscene.
Pro Clubs & UT - Half-time/full time menu's during matches.

There are various other menu's this happens on too but can't remember off the top of my head, i will add them here as i experience them. Feel free to add your own experiences of where you encounter this too.

    Check if you have the playstation upside down as that is why will be overheating

    My PS5 was doing the same but then I realised I put it upside down and I turn it around and works perfectly now

    Tried to play two games of UT today. Both times the match got to half-time, the fan sure enough ramped to full speed and then my PS5 shutdown, not even a warning this time, nothing.

    Two matches attempted which are now two losses, all out of my control.

    I'll tag you again @EA_Mako as we got no response previously, something has to change.

    @ProRecoil I too have the same problem it got worse on my ps5 that it shut down my ps 5 and almost broke it....I've decided to put the game away till it get fixed though am very disappointed after buying it on day one 😑

    Its been happening to me since the end of fifa 23. I even sold my digital PS5 and got a disc one to play EAFC thinking it was a hardware issue but i found out it was EAs fault. Its crazy that theres not fixed yet but at least i know my console is perfectly fine and i can play any other games without worrying.

    Same thing happening for me too… had this issue since Fifa 22… Im playing EA FC on disc version ps5 and still “overheating”. It’s a joke spending £70 on a game and you can’t even play it properly

    Indeed its been a problem since the past few FIFA's but still carried over and not addressed in the latest edition, in fact its even worse in EAFC 24.

    Like you say, having to do these little workarounds which still present the possibility of kicking you from matches is just not good enough, we need a proper fix from EA and fast!

    Even Xbox's are shutting down this year so its a very widespread issue that needs addressing.

    @ProRecoil Hello, I'm facing the same problem than you, I have a disc version PS5 with EAFC 24 digital version. The fan turns crazy in the menus including main menu and pauses, I've had this problem since FIFA 23 but I've read that this has happen since FIFA 22 so it's a EA problem.

    The worst thing is that when you ask for help in forums they answer with the same generic answers like clean the fan o put it horizontal.

    I found a little solution to prevent that the PS5 turn off due to the overheating, when you get into a menu, press the PS button, go to Game Base in the Friends section and press Search Players button.

    This calms the fan for a few seconds, so you can do this in the half time to being able to finish a match with no problem, you can't stay in the Search Players menu more than 15 seconds because it kick you out of the match due to inactivity.

    It's disappointing we have to do these things to play a match with normality but that way worked for me so I hope this can help you.

    @ProRecoil Ok it seems this problem is FAR WORSE than FIFA 23.

    There are far more instances in EAFC 24 of the menus causing the fan speed to max out and the PS5 then giving out an overheating error. This is a severe defect in the game and needs attention ASAP!

    So far i count 3 game modes (Volta, Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs) that this problem occurs in, not to forget the Main Menu. The product is pretty much unusable when this occurs as often as it does.
