Gonzalo Higuaín, Nicolas Anelka, Florent Malouda, Salomon Kalou, Shunsuke Nakamura, Theo Walcott, Aaron Lennon, David Seaman (maybe Icon), upgrade Hazard from Hero to Icon ASAP! Downgrade Mexicos Hernandez to Hero, his career stats were abysmal for a striker, 85 goals in over 200 appearances? Behave.
Let me put it into perspective,
Had 165 goals in his career, half of which was in the Premier league, does he deserve to be an Icon?! No! 🤣
Chicharito suits my idea of a hero card perfectly. I'm not sure what criteria they use to make the decision, but it just makes me think cult heroes every time I see it. Chicharito was definitely one of those, he was most Man United fans' super sub! As for icons I mean we need to start seeing the likes of Arjen Robben and other players, but it might be an image rights problem.
Personally, I don't think Hazard deserves an icon card just yet. I didn't like that they put Wayne Rooney in them just yet, I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be, but I think Icons should be reserved for players that have been retired for a certain amount of years. Then heroes can be more recent players, again though I don't know their criteria.

I believe their criteria is based on "status" more than contributions to football.
Hazard was a legend & an icon for Chelsea but he flopped hard at Madrid.
He's loved mostly by Chelsea fans & respected by others but he's not idolised by other teams supporters.
I think, now that you mention criteria, that Luis Hernandez got an Icon card because he is seen as such by the Mexican fan base.
But I totally agree with Chicharito, probably should be one of the best Hero cards imo.
Maybe a good idea would be to have Hero & Icon cards for the same players, for example, some players were good but not great but then became great or vise versa, maybe different eras of their career should reflect that fact.
Instead of having base, mid, prime etc.
Imo Kompany should be an Icon, he's one of the best CBs in PL history, even if he did play for those sc*m bags. 🤣
Well if it's based on status then it's understandable, but I believe that to be a poor system. I'm not a city fan by any stretch, however, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure, David Silva, and Kompany are all top rated players. It's about what they brought to city, more than the game of football, which is probably why they would be hero cards.
Your idea for Hero and Icon cards does sound better based on the fact that even low rated Heroes are the same rating as low rated Icons.
Chicharito will forever be one of the best super subs to play. Even if he didn't do always do it, you always felt like he was going to change the game coming on, and he quite often did.
