it's a greater shame that the game crashes, srewing players out of their hard-earned rewards (which have a cash component).
And for that, EA will be in trouble.
Based on the in-game currency, EA is a financial institution, as that term is defined by Section 509(3)(A) of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley ("GLB") Act, 15 U.S.C. § 6809(3)(A), and is subject to the GLB Act.
But no one has gone that far, yet. Until now.
Remember when Belgium banned loot boxes as they have a cash component and therefore are gambling?
EA's response was to blame the Belgians for "stopping players from enjoying the game to its fullest"
because you can't enjoy the game without giving EA money
