Improve "Unexpected Events" and give them more cohesion; Improve Interviews
Like a lot of people, I don't use most of the online features of FC. The main reason I buy the game is for the Manager Career mode, and I will also occasionally play Clubs with friends. However, I have found myself struggling to justify buying new versions of the game in recent years, because the Manager Career mode is clearly deeply neglected in favour of other game-modes. It has been stagnating for several years and every new feature feels half-baked and underwhelming.
There are a lot of things I could suggest to improve Manager Career mode; I will list the others in a bullet-point list at the end of this post as they are more vague and large-scale.
The most important thing for me that I think needs to be addressed as soon as possible is Unexpected Events. This was a new feature to Manager Career mode that was very cool on paper but i fear is very underwhelming in practice. I will explain my anecdotal experience and my suggestions on how it could be improved.
I have Unexpected Events set to Frequent. However, I hardly see them, and I don't think i've seen more than four unique events in five years of managing the club. I used this site as a reference for every Unexpected Event. https://esports-news.co.uk/2025/08/27/every-unexpected-event-in-ea-fc-26-career-mode/
My first immediate suggestion would be to increase the variety and amount of these Events that can happen on all modes (except where they are turned off). It's a genuinely cool new feature that from my perspective just isn't being realised.
In addition, some Unexpected Events are disjointed with what is actually happening at your club, or are just broken. This really damages the feeling of immersion at times. The one that I personally countered was a player making scathing press remarks to the club and announcing their intent to leave; however, that player's morale was "Very Happy" and they were upset when i Transfer Listed them. This damaged my playing experience significantly as i was forced to offload one of my key players in a way that felt disappointing (I'd like to clarify, I wouldn't mind having to lose a key player unexpectedly, but not in a fashion that doesn't make sense).
Moving onto the other serious wasted opportunity in Career Mode currently; Pre and Post-Match Interviews. These were very cool when first introduced but feel really boring and underwhelming currently; I tend to skip them entirely due to their uselessness and repetitiveness. Currently, you just get three questions about individual players' performance and your reply sees their morale increase and decrease. I would suggest greatly enhancing these Interviews with a large range of questions; I have included a small amount below, but I think several dozen unique questions (minimum) would be needed.
- Individual questions on a player's long-term form
- Questions relating to a recent Unexpected Event
- Questions on your team's recent form, or your opinion on the opposition, or on your team's overall performance
- Questions on a particular event in the match (such as a red card or penalty)
- Questions regarding your security as a manager, or your future at the club, or the future of a specific player
Here are some of the other things I think EA could do to make Manager Career mode more valuable:
- License as many international teams as possible. Where it is not possible, use generic countries with the country's flag as their logo. Everyone who wants to play Manager Career wants to play a full international cycle, with the Nations League and more World Cup/Regional Cup (eg. AFCON) qualifying stages; right now it feels deeply lacklustre and I find myself deliberately choosing to reject international offers as the International mode is so deeply underwhelming currently.
- Take inspiration from Football Manager wherever possible. This is the thing I think Manager Career mode could benefit from most; There's a massive amount of small things that could be added to improve Manager Career's immersion. Adding a Manager Market was a good addition; here are some more things i think would elevate the player experience:
- Half-time/ingame team talks with genuine impact
- Board takeovers changing club ambition and budget mid-save
- Fan confidence as a different metric from board confidence
- A big expansion on the custom stadium system; this is a big one but it would be really cool to have a selection of unique stands you can upgrade the club with
- Individual upgrades to different parts of the club (Youth, Stadium facilities, Pitch, etc)
- Veteran players taking young players under their wing, creating unique dynamics
- Chairman/board influence on the club being more pronounced than just basic requirements and budget
- More in-depth player morale systems, similar to FM's morale systems
- A youth league as well as occasional youth tournaments
- Being able to see more details mid-match, such as other concurrent matches and the live table
