Suggestions on how to increase fun across all players in UT

Pretty sure most of this gets ignored anyway but as a long time player who has spent way more time and in previous years money than I care to admit but is close to finally jacking it in I wanted to give some simple thoughts on what would keep me on the game beyond the next couple of weeks.

Rivals

We all know the matchmaking in Rivals is driving people insane. Prior to this years game EA said getting rewards would be easier, contain less long losing streaks and you predicted take 5 games less 'on average'. Here in lies the problem. Due to the mess of people not being in their skill level division alot of people are facing equal or even longer losing streaks and even more games to get rewards. However some will be finding it easier due to smurfing. So on average yes its probably less, but not for half the player base

Ideas to resolve:

  • Implement a more cross game mode matchmaking system applicable to Rivals. 
  • Increase the gap in rewards and add more bounties with greater returns the higher you go to tempt people to get to their skill level division
  • If you don't want to do the above make Tournament and Gauntlet objective rewards scale based on your Rivals division. This again would tempt at least some of the 'smurfers' to promote themselves for better rewards in other modes 
  • End of season relegation. Get rid or make it optional. Why should you sweat to get into a division only to possibly be kicked back two levels a day later because its a new season. You have relegation now, there is no need for it and it demoralises people every year. Especially this year now Champs is locked to div 6 and above.

Tournaments and Gauntlets

This was a fun sounding idea but unfortunately due to the community you have created every game feels like every other competitive mode. Every tournament or gauntlet basically allows people to just use the same team as in every other mode making them ultra competitive and repetitive.

  • Add more restrictive requirements. Other than the silver tournament it feels like every tournament or gauntlet has allowed people to basically use their main team. Even more amusing they have started putting cosmetics on duplicate Pina's so they can use her in each round of gauntlets! Ban some formations, make it so certain clubs players cannot be used or players with certain attributes just anything to give them a different feel
  • Add some division specific tournaments and gauntlets that you can only enter if you are in a specific division with rewards tailored to each. Make it so you can only get the rewards at the end if you have stayed in that division to stop people promoting then relegating as soon as they enter. 
  • Block re-entry into the base tournament or gauntlet once you have completed objectives linked to it. Have a completionist tournament or gauntlet people can enter instead. Nothing worse than going into a tournament that has just daily refreshed and facing someone with the final reward in their team! 
  • Make tournaments and gauntlets last at least 7 days, especially if dropped during the week. People have jobs and families, giving them 3 midweek evenings to compete in a tournament or gauntlet is not fair on them or their families. Why should they have to choose while those without commitments can complete everything. 

Tactics, Squads and Playstyles

Probably the most annoying thing this year is how every game feels the same because the majority of players are using the same tactics and killing any fun while also using the exact same players and game mechanics.

  • Add incentives for using a tactic which is not in the most popular. Say extra coin boosts for "unique" tactics or squads. You must have the data to see who is using what to figure this out.
  • Increase min defensive depth when a tactic has heavy defensive instructions. Good players will be able to cope but it will stop people copying the same tactics without learning the game and how they work. SGI
  • Increase gaps between players when a tactic has a 5 man midfield.
  • Make non-controlled players go to sleep if they have not been controlled in a short period of time to reduce the effectiveness of defending with just one player. Good players will know how to defend without doing this. SGI
  • Reduce the amount of time a user can hold R1 when dribbling and introduce a cool down as with 2nd man press. Good players will know when and how to use it. SGI
  • On 2nd man press make the press less effective, you shouldn't be able to hold one button and have your player chase an opponent round the pitch. Good players will again know how and when to use this. SGI
  • Reduce role impact further on attack especially when using short passing where players should always look to find space regardless of their role
  • Make goalkeeper movement harder. Make it a multi button requirement and require the user to trigger the save animation. With one sided delay currently you can have shots saved just because your opponent sees your shot animation before you see their keeper movement. Good players will still be able to use it but keeper movement spammers would not. SGI
  • Make a mode where there are no playstyles, roles or custom tactics active and all players are on balanced where you can only choose your formation and use players in their correct positions. Genuinely curious to see how the game feels. 
  • Make any player with a wide position have both the M and W version. No reason a LW can't play LM etc. Same with CM, CMs should be able to play CDM or CAM. 

There is alot more but this is already a long enough comment I just hope some of the above can be considered. You will notice I have not demanded the removal of anything critical to either good players or casuals but have suggested things to increase skill gaps (tagged with SGI for Skill Gap Improvement)  bring down the level of competitiveness currently in every mode and try to re-introduce some fun into the game for everyone. Contrary to your belief people having fun will probably spend more money where as at the moment it just does not seem worth it when everything is just horrible to play for most people.
