Placed in Europa league after qualifying for the Champions league

I’ve just completed season 1 of a manager career mode. despite finishing in 3rd place in the English Premier league (should qualify for UCL), when season 2 started I’d been placed into the UEFA Europa League. Does anyone know why this may have happened?

    I have the same. Finished 4th and in Europa. I wondered whether me winning borh the domestic cups first impacted this.
