SIAN LINGHAM (Williams) EA SPORTS FC ICON/HERO NOMINATION
Sian Lingham (formerly Sian Williams) - Arsenal Legend and Pioneer of Women’s football.
I would love to push out this nomination to someone who is such a huge part of women’s football for inclusion in any upcoming EAFC game as an Icon, to honour her playing career, leadership, all her achievements and impact to women’s football.
Sians story is very important because she really does represent a generation of women’s footballers who helped to build the foundations of the women’s game as we know it today at a time where she played for the game where there was no where near as much exposure, investment or recognition as there is now in 2026.
Arsenal have seen her as part of its heritage as in 2023 they included her in the stadium artwork “Remember who you are” (just above Arsène Wenger). She spent 14 years at Arsenal from 1990-2004 with 6 of those years being club captain. And during this time she was able to archive 25 Arsenal trophies including:
- 6 FA Women’s premier leagues
- 7 Fa Women’s league cups
- 6 Fa women’s cups
- 2 Fa women community shields
- 5 London county FA women’s cups
She was captian for their historic treble in the 2000-01 season. And also represented Arsenal in the clubs FIRST ever UEFA womens cup/champions league campaign where they reached the quarter finals.
There are obviously many players you could consider to be an icon or even a hero card. But in my opinion an icon should always not just be about stats and goals but instead represent the history of football and like I said earlier Sian represents that generation of players who competed at the highest level while fighting for the recognition and opportunities the players of today have. She helped build the history of the women’s game.
My only ask is ea consider Sian as an icon or at least a hero as this would give fans a chance to appreciate those who helped build the game we know today as I said.
Arsenal have already recognised Sian as part of its history. I think EA should do the same.
