iPad aspect ratio prevents me from seeing same view as opponents

So, I’ve been playing since January and I’d noticed that there were times (e.g., on an opponent’s corner in the bottom left of the screen when I couldn’t see the full field of play (not the WHOLE field but, rather, the area where the action was occurring). Well, it finally dawned on me that the aspect ratio of my iPad is different from most mobile phones in that it’s not as long relative to its width. So, similar to watching movies on an old TV where the widescreen “cinematic” view would get chopped to fit a boxier screen, I think those of us on iPads are experiencing a “chopped” view of the field. It doesn’t matter too much 75% of the time, but it matters a LOT that other 25% of the time when I can’t see opponent’s players (or my keeper) on a counter-attack or corner kick.

I’d love for someone to check me on this, but I absolutely know it causes me big problems on those bottom left corner kicks (which is why I’m almost certain I’m right about the “chop”). I’ve looked to see if there is a way to adjust the aspect ratio of the display (the way you could choose “widescreen” on old DVDs), but I don’t see anywhere you can alter the view. Again, somebody fill me in if I’ve missed it. And if I haven’t, could somebody at EA please pass along to the developers that this is something that really ought to be added so that iPad users aren’t playing with a hand tied behind our backs?

Great, I’ll give it a try. Too bad someone from “the team” couldn’t respond to me weeks earlier, lol. Or, at a minimum, pin a message concerning this issue so that thousands of iPad users would be made aware.

It's a known issue, but there is no easy solution ... i have been advised by the team that following the latest update, using camera 3 might be helpful

Just conceded on a corner on the last kick of the game because I couldn’t see all of the players in my box on the opponent’s bottom-left corner kick. C’mon, EA, this is basic. I’m using a device (an iPad) that’s owned by millions. Surely you can give users like me a “letter box” option so we have an aspect ratio that lets us see the same field view our opponents are seeing.

A week goes by and not a peep from EA on a more than legit customer concern. How many other users play on iPad? Must be thousands, but no acknowledgement whatsoever. Says all you need to know about this company.  Prove me wrong, EA. Prove me wrong.

Anyone from EA wanna comment/acknowledge this if it is indeed a “known issue?” Or is this going to be yet another case of a customer taking the time to post about a legit issue and getting totally ignored by an indifferent company?

So, I looked it up and in filmmaking they call it “letter box.” Anyone old enough remembers when you’d have to choose this setting on your DVD playback and it would give you the full widescreen picture with black bars across the top and bottom of the screen. All EA would need to do is allow iPad users to toggle this view when we play H2H so that we don’t play at a disadvantage.

Yeah, I get that two versions wouldn’t work, but it shouldn’t be technically too difficult to give iPad users an option to switch their view to “cinematic” view. If they could do it for DVD playback going back to the 90s then it can’t be that hard.

  • it is a known issue - i know the team has looked into it in the past, but i think the issue is that they can't have two versions of the game, one for ipads and one for everyone else.
