Player Personality in Franchise Mode

A rather niche request that only impacts immersion and customization, but the Player Personality has been bugging me for years. I like that each player has a "unique" personality type but 99/100 it's very far from the actual player's personality. I imagine this only impacts people that follow the insider reports and beat writers of their respective teams, but would it be difficult for the Madden team to allow users to edit the Personality of the players in Franchise mode? I'll use some examples:

Brock Bowers. The game has him as "Entertainer". The guy is quiet, humble and all business. It just doesn't fit. Patrick Mahomes is "Unpredictable". From what I've seen he's more "Intense" or "Leader". Jalen Hurts is also "Unpredictable" but that guy is a bonafide "Leader" as is A.J. Brown who was assigned "Entertainer". Davante Adams is a "Team Player" when everyone knows at this point that he's a diva and is as close to "Unpredictable" as any other diva WR. Khalil Mack is "Team Player" and while I wouldn't ever say that he isn't a team player, in real life that dude is as "Intense" about football as someone can get.

A lot of players are probably randomly assigned as it's tedious and difficult to try and accurately pigeonhole hundreds of players to one of 5 vague personalities, but that's why those of us that play the modes where Personality might have some relevance should have the option to edit it. It's also something I enjoy when drafting rookies. I want a Leader as my Franchise QB. I want an Intense EDGE Rusher. I want my backups to be Team Players and I don't want an Unpredictable Kicker and Long Snapper.

We don't get everyone's face scans, tattoos or accurate body types. We can't even edit body dimensions anymore, so drafted Lineman end up being twigs and TE's come out obese. Let us edit things that obviously wouldn't violate licensing but would improve our immersion and replayability. In last year's game Personality type could trigger an event that ranged from player mentorship to how a player responds to criticism. In previous versions Personalities could impact merchandise sales in Owner Mode. Having chemistry implications, contract negotiations and other player interactions come into play with Personality type would be a lot of fun but for now, I'd just like the option to edit the ones that don't make sense.

Amen! I've noticed in franchise mode if you go with the preseason roster (the one that's not subject to updates) the personality types are more accurate (QBs like Mahomes and Daniels have the leader tag they deserve). But when you go to the updatable one, the tags are wildly inaccurate (Mahomes and Daniels are "unpredictable" while a renowned leader like Terry McLaurin is "intense"). I've resorted to just sticking with the original preseason roster, even though it means manually updating rosters accordingly. Hopefully, this request brings attention to the problem!

  • Im curious... How do you even check to see what player has/can get what personality type? I don't know where to go to even see it.

I quite literally found it right after I make this comment. I do agree with you though. I wish they gave more customization towards the personality traits and the motivation/tags.

  • It would nice at the very least to be able to scout personalities and motivations. Nothing pisses me off more than (for example) playing a franchise as the Texans and scouting/drafting a Superstar Dev. LT only to reveal that not only is he "Unpredictable" personality type, but his primary motivation is "Being Close to Home (Alaska)". I could have a mentor at the position (which is incredibly rare as players must have "Leader" personality type to meet criteria), have the exact Scheme fit, be in a large market, have a Franchise QB, good Superbowl Contender rating and still have to give up 1/4 of my team's salary cap to re-sign. Players wanting to be close to Alaska actually happens quite often in my franchise plays, which is impossible to compensate in the NFL. The cutscene to potentially change a player's motivation has also been removed. If this were something you could scout, like real teams are able to, then I would have happily drafted another appealing prospect who's ambitions are more in line with what I'm trying to build long term. These don't seem like difficult things to add and contribute massively to realism and emersion. I've even tried drafting players from nearby schools thinking that might correlate with where the prospect is from but it doesn't. We can't even see where a prospect is from before drafting them. Not asking for EA to include other complicated real life issues teams scout for such as poor choice in friends, baby-mama-drama, dangerous party habits or work ethic issues (although those would be AWESOME additions). Just simple tweaks that seem overlooked and have impacts to existing features.
