Awareness

I would really appreciate if an EA representative could explain to the community in transparent terms what the awareness stat does on a technical level. It's kind of ridiculous that the stat is basically is a Snickers advertisement and the description says "it matters for everything with offense and defense!" A four year old could have written that description.

What does awareness DO exactly? Surely, there has to be some game mechanic it affects for every player. I've seen all the videos, and all are convincingly inconclusive to me. As a Madden enthusiast who plays just about every day, I expect that we should be given this bit of information.
