How do I remove a player I accidently added to a set? MUT

I accidentally added a 97 OVR David Johnson to a set and want him back.  

As a side note, what I was TRYING to do is use my upgrade tokens that I sometimes get from leveling up because I wasn't sure how to do that, having never done it before.  That's what I was trying to do, but "add to set" just made him disappear.  How do I get him back?  Also, how do I use my upgrade tokens to level up my players?

    Apologies for the late reply on this. 

    Once a player has been added to a set the item would be permanently consumed. I'm afraid we don't have a way to recover them.

    Okay but what is u didn't actually add him and he's a wildcard. Can u remove him then
