This was the first time in years that I didn't buy Madden, and only the second time since its inception. Have the Franchise and the Be-a-Player modes improved enough to warrant a purchase, or should I wait until the next title? And do they have plans on improving these modes for the next iteration?

I think it’s worth purchasing. Power up players and solo challenges make it worthwhile in my opinion .
