Can't sign in with google play games even after update

Hello, I know in a recent update you patched the error in which players could not sign in with google play games. However, even after updating, when I try to sign in, after I select my email, it shows the icon indicating that the account is being connected (the welcome... message at the top of the screen) the game reverts to the "unknown error" screen after several seconds of loading. I have been having this problem for several weeks and even the update did not help fix it. I tried contacting ea help and all the troubleshooting methods, and after it didn't work I was redirected here.

I should probably also note that when logging in as a guest, the game works perfectly fine for me. It's just that my legacy team account is connected to google play games and i can't access it otherwise.
