Cannot connect to friends on my friend list (PC)

Hi!

As the title says, I can't connect to friends. The game shows me the "joining game..." and there is "communicating" on the upper left corner and then after a while it stops communicating and then all hope is lost, you cannot join the lobby. I usually don't even get the joining game screen when it connects. I just pop into the lobby.

This has always been a thing of the game but now I cannot connect to people I used to be able to connect just fine. What is going on? It is ruining my fun, there is really no point in playing if you can't connect to your friends. I have a friend who is in the same country, same city and has the same internet provider and we can't connect.
