Community AdminMELE has native controller support, but once you are past the main menu and are into ME1 there is no controller support. Is this to be added later or a bug?

Controller support works fine.
To get past the bug where opening ME1 suddenly switches you back to mouse and keyboard (with controller non-functional), do the following:
Go to Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings
Now just check the box near the controller type that you have.
Worked 100% fine for me after that.
Enable the Steam Overlay in your Steam settings and for some reason the controller is recognised.
Not always.
