I found a solution to it (it worked for me).
In binaries directory:
Rename MassEffect2.exe as MassEffect2Launcher.exe
Rename ME2Game.exe as MassEffect2.exe
Now It Works fine and it can import Mass Effect 1 saves.
Hope work for everyone.

I've been trying for hours to get this game to start and I have no idea why your solution works but thank you so much.- Anonymous13 years ago
Hi everyone,
I’m sorry to hear that some of you are still experiencing this issue.
If the workaround marked as a solution does not work for you, could you please try the workaround provided by brutalistanbul?

Puh!!!
I finaly found something that worked for me, and I have tested all you suggestion that is stated before in this forum see this page
http://www.masseffectsaves.com/import.php
For the long version. Her the short one, and it is a copy and paste, (the folder may difer because of vesion of Windows you use):
"Some people are having have trouble running the config utility, ie. it always crashes. There's a work around which
duplicates the copy function, Check out copy/paste job:
If the ME1 save doesn't appear, relax, its just in another folder that ME2 can't see.
Here are the steps
1) Go to Documents > Bioware > Mass Effect (Note: ME1) > Save
2) Now you will see 2 kinds of files
One Like this : Jane01_02
And like this: Char_01-36-3-1-5-25-1-2010-10-24
(Its different for everyone, but as long as it has "Char_" that is the file) "Note!!!
The last sentece that save gamed need to start witn "Char_", that was my finaly solution!
So I renamed a saved game file so it begin with Char_

This fix worked perfectly but then, ever since a week ago, I've started having the same problem again. However, this time changing the names doesn't work and sometimes origin pops up saying there is an invalid or missing par file and I should reinstall (which I have done.... Several times). Does anyone have any idea what I can try now?
(To EA) Seriously guys, you need to pull your act together. Origin is a pain in the neck. I managed to play through Mass effect 1 after a massive amount of difficulty with the same problem and I LOVE Mass Effect but if this is the rubbish customer care PC gamers get... I'm not even sure I'm going to buy an EA game again Mass Effect or not. I apologise for the rant but it's how a lot of people feel and if you don't care what we think, then I rest my case about your customer care.
- Anonymous9 years agoAgree with you 100%. I own 19 games in origin and I can't remember any of the games just working without having to research to get games to work. I just stop dealing with any origin games. The company is a par with Comcast in my opinion.

1) In binaries directory:
Rename MassEffect2.exe as MassEffect2Launcher.exe
Rename ME2Game.exe as MassEffect2.exe
2) after, start ME2 from origin and given a mscvp80.dll error. (I searched that this error was a vc redist. program error.)
3) I reinstalled vcredist 2005 ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Mass Effect 2\__Installer\vc\vc2005\redist\vcredist_x86.exe) and stop running origin application.
4) I restart origin app. then I restart me2 from origin. And it seems working but it wasn't. Only black screen... Game haven't been loaded.
5) Pressed Ctrl+alt+del, looked running applications. I have seen that a message window has been popped up behind the black screen.
6) This message shortly as I remember said that there was a shortcut problem and if you accept , it will use default map.
7) I accepted that message and game has been started from origin.
8) I think this problem is solved for me 🙂
I hope it will be useful for others and thanks for the first step brutalistanbul
- I am using beta version enabled Origin Version 9.3.6.4643 - 239145 - E2-S2-A2-L2 and ME2 v1.02

A couple things here, this fix didn't work for me initially, on start up it said a ".par" file was missing and wanted a reinstall, i figured if the .exe files had to be renamed then so did their respective par files....well that worked! Also, if .exe files you are renaming don't originally have .exe in the file name don't add the .exe when you change the file name to the new name. cheer

The renaming of the two .exe in the binaries folder also worked for me on the 2nd reinstall.
I brought the trioligy few days ago, i had little problems with ME1 but i quickly fixed them.
But these problems with ME2 is outrageous. this is Augusy 2014, why dont you have a fix for this EA / ORIGIN ?
you could atlest give info through Origin about it how to manually fix if your programmers cant code it. THen one dont have to google for solutions which should not be needed in the first place.
i cant wait to see if ME3 runs smoothly.
Regards.

OMG thank you so much, ur the only solution on the internet that actually worked. I don't understand why those files aren't labeled that way in the first place but you rock dude. Thank you. Cheers.

Holy **bleep**! You are a genius! Thank you for your solution!

I tried this but it still doesn't seem to work. I've tried opening it while I had task manager up and it appears but then quickly disappears in there

some things I tried
- I used this editor to get me2 to run again http://social.bioware.com/project/1854/ ME2Coalesced.Editor.v1.0.0.32B the ini files require unix repacking to work with the game, otherwise ME2 won't load.
- I set origin and both ME2 exe files to administrator.
- I set MassEffect2.exe to be limited through affinity. I set it on cores 2-7. Most programs through DX11 and earlier will try and run on 0. Your system files will too.
- I did the graphical tweaks in http://forum.bioware.com/topic/103443-mass-effect-2-graphics-omptimization-guide/ they look so much better especially with more polygons on people.
I have been working on this for 2 days and this was the key difference.
