ME2 - Subtitles showing in the middle of the screen and in huge fonts?

I just started my ME2 playthrough, and the subtitles are showing up in the middle of the screen and in a huge size... even bleeding over the edges of the cutscene screen, making some of the stuff impossible to read. ME1 had the subtitles at the bottom of the screen and in proper, smaller font... not sure why ME2 is doing this. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • It didn't affect anything. I went to the settings on the Launcher, set the subtitles to "Small", and what you saw is the result in my screen capture. It didn't affect anything at all. And, again, it's both the size and the position of the subtitles. They should be at the bottom of the screen, not in the middle.

In ME1, it worked fine. But, in both ME2 and ME3 (I tried that after I posted), the subtitles are in the middle and huge. Something is broken.

  • I'm also getting the subtitles in the center of the screen...

I'm thinking there's the possibility the game was coded to display subs a certain distance from the bottom of the screen, and now due to pre-rendered videos in ME2 being cropped and letterboxed to censor Miranda's bum the new bottom of the subs is actually much further up the physical screen.  As for the sizing, have you checked your Windows scaling size?

  • You might be on to something with that, however, they seemed to have "fixed" it for ME1... the behavior is only happening on 2 and 3, so... not sure what the difference is in those cutscenes versus whatever they may have reworked for ME1.

And yeah, I have checked my scaling size... nothing amiss there. And, again, ME1 is fine. So, I would have expected any global setting within Window to affect it the same as 2 and 3. Even so, switching the scaling didn't change anything anyway. As much as I'd love to find a setting or something I can control within Windows or the Nvidia control panel or something like that... I'm afraid that this is just a bug and there's nothing I can do but hope they fix it.

(Have to hope, since contacting EA tech support and asking them file a bug report was an utter disaster today. Got a rep who argued with me, insulted me, made up fake problems that had nothing to do with screen resolution or other display problems, and then dumped me off on someone else without so much as a word. Tech support is often bad, but today's experience ranks with one of my very worst ever.)

@montereypoet Agreed... a product can live or die on how post sale support is handled.

For me I found to get rid of the letterboxing I wound up deleting the ME2 folder to reset the settings and instead of using fullscreen I now use borderless, however the subs are still way too high up the screen to make sense. -- Mine are roughly 1/3 up from the bottom of the screen.
