I have Mass Effect: Legendary Edition on Steam. I click "Play," innocent as you please. It makes like it's going to launch...and then it promptly does. So I log onto that (completely pointless and unnecessary) EA Games app. I go back to Steam and click "Play." And guess what happens? NOTHING.
Back when EA forced Origin on us, I was still able to play my EA games via Steam. The platform I bought them on, and therefore the platform I should be able to play it through. Now, thanks to this new EA Games app that you dropped on us, the game that I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR won't work the way it should.
What's the point of the EA Games app, anyway? What does it POSSIBLY offer that Steam doesn't? What's the point of cluttering up space on a PC gamer's computer with a garbage app that only serves to make previously-playable games completely UN-playable?
It's funny, really...I was playing with the idea of buying the remake of Dead Space, as I really enjoyed that game, and the remake looked incredible. However, because of EA's foolish, selfish, and thoroughly out-of-touch business decisions that only make things more difficult for customers, I don't think I'll be buying it, after all. They're not getting one more penny of my money until they get their act together, and stop screwing things up for their consumer base.

I downloaded Mass Effect Legendary Edition on Steam but it will not open. When it boots up the EA app, I'm met with the message "Your game failed to launch. An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later." I was gifted the game during September 2022 and it has been doing this since then. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling both the game and the EA app. I've unconnected and reconnected my steam and EA accounts. I've tried verifying the files of Mass Effect LE, but to no avail. Please help.
By the way, when I go into the EA app, it says I've not downloaded Mass Effect LE. (even though I have) I've downloaded another EA game from steam (It Takes Two) and that is listed as downloaded. I can open it from steam or the EA app; It works perfectly fine. I'm only having issues with Mass Effect LE specifically. Thanks...

Thank you for the posts, and sorry about any frustrations encountered. Could you check on the game's installed location and check if the game is set to launch as administrator? If it is, can you uncheck this and try again?
You can check for this by right-clicking the game's app and choosing Properties, then check in the Compatibility section.- 3 years ago
The game is not set to launch as administrator.

Same problem as everyone else. I won't pile on to EA more, since everyone here is pretty much disgusted with them anyway. Log attached.

I was finally able to get it to launch yesterday, but I won't claim this is the solution. You may even need to try this more than one time to get it to work, so keep that in mind.
Do the following from a fresh start or fresh restart (I'm running Windows 10 fwiw):
1. Start the EA app.
2. Sign in to the EA app when prompted. (I use username, but I don't think it matters).
3. Once signed in, minimize or close the app and confirm it is in the application tray in the bottom right.
4. Start Steam.
5. Go to Steam Library and located MELE. Click on the tile for the game. DO NOT click start.
6. At the game page, click on Start within Steam.
This has been successful for me twice now since the problem started. If it doesn't work for you, I hope you find an answer soon.
