Unable to load Mass Effect 3 on my PS3

I hope someone can help me. I purchased Mass Effect 3 (new) for PS3 at a retail store. I placed the disk inside the PS3 to begin the installation and it prompted me to do an Update and I did.
It then proceeded to 'load' -import my character from Mass Effect 2 and it froze.
I had already connected to the EA server and used my online code and even purchased some additional downloadable content---prior to the Freezing part.
I tried over and over again but nothing worked. I followed the instructions about deleting the Game Utility for it as well. Nothing. I took the game back and exchanged it for another one--Mass Effect 3. I went through the whole ordeal once more. But up to the 7 pm hour I still had no luck. I returned that game as well and exchanged it for a totally different game.
I still plan to 'buy' Mass Effect 3 again but before I do, I need to know if the installing, loading, of the game is useless on a PS3 at this time.
I just want to know if there is a patch ( other than the 1.03 that it claimed it installed) available for the PS3?
I enjoyed playing ME 2 but this one, ME 3 is the pits. Please help.
As a user, it looks like you have done all the usual troubleshooting steps.
I know many people using the PS3 have been able to successfully install and import their games, so something is unique on your system.
Official support from a EA Game Advisor or Sony may be able to help.
Our suggestions would be to do stuff with the Game Utility, uninstall, update, etc...
My guess, is that something is wrong with your ME2 save. Perhaps creating a new one to import, or try importing a different one might work.
(To create a new one, just run ME2 and load whatever save you have, after completing the main quest, then save)
