Logically there are 4 main crew members for the ship:
Suvi
Kallo
Gil
Lexie
Can't go anywhere without a doctor really.
Anyone else is not planned for. Here's the thing though. Presumably the plan wouldn't have been that Ryder does everything by him/herself. So a few extra beds really would've been in order.
I think it would've made more sense to not have the med lab where it is but above in either Jaal or Cora's room really.

The first time I read that sentence, I read in mind "not to have the meth lab". Within micro seconds, my brain was saying, "but that's the most important part of the ship". Then the working part of my brain kicked in and I read that sentence correctly. 🙂

You, @VitesseLumiere, you're the submerged guy, right? Dwells in a submarine? Then, how come 100 of you fit on your benches? You have 100 benches or you take turns on 4 as well? Or maybe no one sleeps? Stay alert until the eyes start to bleed then are sent back to the surface to patch and be sent back in?

Perhaps the Med bay is there cause the way to enter the tempest after a mission via the ramp would leads to where they store the Nomad. If someone is injured the med bay would be more accessible on the lower level.

makes a lot of sense, actually.

Well I figured let's put the living quarters in one area with the kitchen and all. The back rooms of Vetra and Liam can be used for medbay as far as I'm concerned. That's even closer to the Nomad as well 🙂

@PandaTar, yep. Fast attack subs - the small stealthy ones that do all the cool ops, but stay underwater for 6-7 months, and are very small - didn't seem much bigger to me than the old subs you see in movies. Have about 100 crew, but everyone hot-racks. Subs run on an 18 hour day instead of a 24 hour day. 6 hours for watch. 6 hours for maintenance. 6 hours for sleep, shower, training & qualifications. So, generally 2 to 3 people to a rack, switching out each 6 hours. And the racks are the size of MRI tubes. Just had a very long spinal MRI, so I can say that for sure.
If you're on a boomer (ballistic missile submarine), those things are like floating hotels (even bulkhead doors are 3 times larger) that only stay out 3 months at a time. I've been on one, but didn't get to tour the rack space and didn't think to ask my buddy about how they hot rack, so I don't know about those.

Yup agreed in term of distance and convenience, but not so much in terms of environment. With Gil working on the Nomad and the grease and dirt generally associated to a mechanic's workshop, may not be the most hygienic place for a med bay. Should install one of those angarian decontamination machines there lol.

Erm, Gill's room is above that floor, so not sure how his area ties into my idea. Still, I do agree that the rear of the ship is not ideal after giving it some more thought. So I guess it still would make more sense to take Jaal and Cora's rooms and make them into actual bedrooms. A couple of bunk beds each and the plants can go to Liam's room.
That could work I think.
