Essence Painting

Almost 21 hours in on mysims, I was painting in Patrick’s House and my tasty essences all of a sudden became inaccessible. I’m unable to paint with tasty essence now in all houses. I can paint with all my essences in the workshop, but not in homes. 

I saw online that you can use the arrows instead of clicking X to switch essences, that’s better than nothing, but very tedious and I want the game to work properly.
