Unsurprisingly, that only worked once. Where do I escalate this for a refund? I shouldn't be forced to keep a product that stops working. I've been patient and the game just keeps breaking.
adding the .exe to exceptions to windows defender in addition to the above worked this time.

So, I think I found a solution and I'm very angry how simple it was because I had previously done it before but somewhere down the line it was undone.
DISABLE THE EA APP IN-GAME OVERLAY
This seems to have fixed EVERYTHING
If it breaks again, I will update again.Never mind. It is yet again, not working. It eventually works after clicking play 20 times.
