This is not off-side. Here is the official rule:

"If a player legally carries, passes or plays the puck back into his own defending zone while a player of the opposing team is in such defending zone, the off-side shall be ignored and play permitted to continue."

  • I can't attach video apparently due to file type. Basically what is happening is here:

I am entering the offensive zone of the opposing team. Let's say a misplay happens and the puck exits the offensive zone. 4 of my players stay in the offensive zone and 4 of the opposing players stay in the defensive zone. The puck let's say goes in front of my bench and the opposing player passes the puck into the defensive zone, but one of my players steals it and I score. Basically 1 player from each team leaves the offensive zone while all the other players stay inside the blue line. The puck re-enters the offensive zone but all of my attackers are ALREADY in the offensive zone. Puck must always enter first.

  • It just happened again on a similar play. I have both plays recorded I just can't upload because of file type..

This play was I was on the offensive zone. I am the Kings playing against Blues. I entered the offensive myself all my other players went for line change. 4 members of the other team on the defensive zone. I lost possession on the offensive zone. As the Blues were skating the puck out of the defensive zone, Byfield for the Kings was skating towards the defensive zone, the puck was skating out of the defensive by a good measurement and Byfield poked the puck back in the offensive zone but Kempe was still on the offensive zone the entire time. No offside called.

This is actually correct with current NHL rules.

If the defensive team passes the puck into their own defensive zone and an attacking player intercepts the puck, it is ruled on sides.

Hopefully this clears anything up for you 🙂
