Don't switch Total Control Buttons

I play EASHL 6s or 3s only on a competitive level. I loved the implementation of the passing buttons last year, but what I don't understand until today is, why they are not staying with the player instead of belonging to the position. Every time we had a penalty kill, the button are totally mixed up and useless in a quick situation. Isn't it possible to just keep the buttons on the player?

For example as a C"

The RW (blue) is always O

LW (green) always Square

LD always X

RD always triangle

Especially with cutting the colour this year, it's almost impossible to adjust quick enougj to the new button after or while a penalty kill.

Hi there. Can you get me a video of this? Also, which console are you on? I'm on Xbox and tested this using both Skill Stick and Total Control and the colors are showing up. Thanks.

I think you mean vision passing buttons,  and not total control (which is the name for the new controller button layout scheme that was introduced in NHL 24)

Some sort of tutorial to get familiar with the way they shift around the button scheme for the vision passing would be helpful,  if they don't already have one.

But the way it is leaves me guessing who's coming up with me and what button they'll be. And now that you mention them taking away the colour coding no wonder I feel like I'm scrambling to figure out which button the person is more than I did in last years.

This would also be made easier if they would identify the position each player plays,  like under the character where their name, or my username, is (which,  I know who I am and which team I'm on, so my username is pretty useless).

  • Yeah, it's like they copied it, but tried to do better and made it worse. I don't know how many times I passed to the wrong guy in 24. My hopes were big, that they will fix it in 25. Well, they didn't...

  • You're completely right and this is how it SHOULD be. Each POSITION should be assigned a button for passing.

This is how NBA2k does it (where EA got the idea from) so I'm not sure why they didn't copy this part of the feature as well. It would help with muscle memory and fluency with the icon passing feature.

While we're at it... why not make it so that the DEFENDING TEAM has the ability to switch players with icons as well? (Again, NBA2k does this...) Is EA waiting a couple of years to then add this as a "new feature?"

NHL 2K was doing this long before NBA2K was a thing.
