NHL 25 keeps crashing on series x

I can’t even complete a single game in NHL 25 without being sent back to the Home Screen. Sometimes, it even happens in the menu. None of my friends with a Series X are experiencing this issue, yet it persists for me. I had the same problem with Madden 24 and College Football 25 before they were patched, but NHL 25 still hasn’t been fixed. It’s crazy that I paid $70 for a game that I can’t even play properly.

Out of curiosity, Series S or X? I can understand a series S overheating given the environment its in but a series X should have no problems

  • i had to get a external fan, the game overheats my xbox. No other game does it though

Nothing has worked unfortunately I contacted Microsoft support and they told me because it’s no longer user warranty that I would be charged $299 to send it in and get it fixed.

    • Power Cycle your Xbox
      • Hold the Xbox button on your console down for 10 seconds until your Xbox turns off
      • Unplug the power cable for at least 10 seconds
      • Plug in the power cable and turn on the Xbox
      • Try the game once your console is on and connected to the internet
    • Check for possible overheating
      • Touch your console, it is normal for it to be pretty warm however if it is hot to the touch it may be overheating
      • Ensure your xbox is being properly ventilated and nothing is obstructing the ventilation ports.
      • Game crashes, unexpected shutdowns, excessive fan noise, lagging, freezing, screen tearing and in general performance drops are all potential signs of overheating.
      • Switch to Energy-Saving Mode in your Power settings
      • Clear any dust or debris from the fan/ventilation ports.
    • Check for software updates
      • Open the settings, scroll to System then select Updates
      • If it shows an update is available perform the update
      • If there was an update try the game again once the update is complete
    • Test your internet
      • Open the settings, under General select Network Settings
      • Test your internet connection
      • Test your multiplayer connection
      • Test your speed and statistics
    • Clear alternate MAC address
      • Open the settings, under General Select Network Settings
      • Select Advanced Settings then select Alternate MAC Address
      • Select Clear Alternate MAC Address
      • Restart your console
    • Factory Reset (Keep Games and Apps)
      • Open the settings, scroll to System then select Console Info
      • Select Reset Console
      • Select Reset and Keep My Games and Apps
      • Add your account back to your Xbox after the reset
      • Try the game again
    • Reinstall the Game
      • Go to My Games and Apps
      • Press the Start button on NHL 25
      • Select Uninstall
      • Find NHL 25 under your full library and select it
      • Install the game
      • Try the game again

I recommend trying these out in the order listed as I have listed them in order of how drastic they are.

If all of them do not fix your issue you could try doing a full factory reset where it deletes everything. If a future patch doesn't fix the issue and your xbox is under warranty you could try to create a repair order to have your Xbox repaired or replaced entirely.

I had similar things happen with games and the series x just simply not performing. Do a factory reset but keep your apps and games installed (there will be an option for that). It helped a lot of issues I had.

However, there still is an issue with NHL 25 after playing about the 2 hour mark where the game performance will degrade and it can crash to the xbox dashboard. Just restart your game every 2 hours.

    Hopefully that helps.

Could be an issue with your console. I could leave some troubleshooting tips if you'd like.
