That probably comes down to a "how long are you willing to wait for a matchup" question. Sadly I can't see it being a fixable problem for EA. Either match anyone against anyone (you could be a bronze 1 vs a crystal 2 for example) and gain faster matchup timing or put people in matches they have a chance to win but make them wait for that matchup. It has to be one extreme or the other unless they can increase the player base.

Hey there. Matchmaking is based mainly on your rank and region. So, there's most likely a small pool of players at the time you're searching. The best I can tell you is to hold off on searching for a bit after you get out of a match against that player. That way, they can match with someone else which will then let you match with a different player.
