Update:
During sales a shopping cart will be made available.
While on the Origin Store, click on the banner of the current promotion to browse games that are on sale - hover over your desired game to see the option to add them to your cart.
Please bring back the shopping cart. Not only was it obnoxious to have to pay before I could see what my order even was, but it was incredibly uncomfortable. No one wants to put their credit card information down when they don't know what they're paying for. I almost didn't buy the Sims 4 pack I purchased, simply because I couldn't figure out where to put my promo code and didn't want to be charged full price by accident. I had to contact someone in your help department before I felt confident enough to buy something using the new site design. Your design should inspire a lot more trust.
Completely agree with the majority of comments. Not implementing a shopping cart/basket is very much step backwards and (clearly) very off-putting to many shoppers.
If things are "currently working as designed" then I would suggest that the "design" is manifestly wrong and should be revised promptly.
The official response is pretty baffling to me, to be honest, and doesn't really instill confidence. A shopping cart is a fundamental feature in the global webstore experience. Very well, add the Buy Now option to streamline the process, but to remove the most basic, understood and accepted method for people to shop online is just a decision I cannot begin to understand. Can you imagine if Amazon decided they weren't going to have a shopping cart anymore? Madness!
I recall a blog post once on UI design. In his younger years, the writer had worked at a bakery or some-such, and part of his work involved hoisting stuff up into industrial mixing vats via a chain/pulley system. One day, the company replaced the chain, and one of the links in the new one had a small, jagged edge of metal that would cut into his hand every time he happened to grab it, completely ruining his day.
Translating that lesson into user experience, the point is clear: it takes only one small-but-irritating change, one dud feature--or in this case, the removal of a much used one--to irrevocably alter the user's attitude toward the overall product. Aesthetics is one thing, most people can and will work around an undesirable layout, but when you go messing around with core usability, you'd better be damned sure the alternative is palatable. In this case? Totally not tasty. ☹️
So does this mean a shopping cart will only be available during sales? I believe me and many many other people would love a shopping cart available 24/7. As a company you need to make money and making the shopping process better for the customer would be a great thing to improve sales and the use of origin. This is quite necessary when you have DLC and separate packs for most of your games, like The Sims for example. If someone wants to buy multiple sim packs at once (like me) a shopping cart would be amazing! without one purchasing multiple products becomes frustrating and tedious, not to mention making you look primitive compared to other online stores.
I hate to be another thorn in your side when it comes to your forums but adding a permanent shopping cart is a must and in this day and age with the internet being a popular place to sell things on you need to add this feature ASAP. I hope you think about what I said and don't brush off my statement as another whiny comment to add to your pile of complaints. I really do like origin but you'll be losing a lot of praise not just from me but from a high percentage of your users. Please think about this and don't be ignorant.
I agree 100%. I typically do not participate in these forums, but the lack of a shopping cart is such an inconvenience to customers that I felt I should chime in. Simply put, the lack a cart has cost EA three sales today. I had planned to purchase one new release title and three other older titles that were on sale. As a result of the cumbersome design I only purchased one title, instead of four. EA may want to consider that this design could be discouraging multiple purchases during a visit to the Origin store and thus reducing potential sales. The "one-click" buy feature is nice, but it should not come at the cost of a shopping cart (or customer convenience!). Most other competent online retailers can do both (hello Amazon, etc...). Why is this so difficult for EA?

Agreed. As everyone else who has posted in this thread not having a shopping basket is idiotic. I just tried to order the Crysis Trilogy and kept getting stuck in payment but no way to see whether the order had gone through as no cart! It's not rocket science - make it as easy as possible for someone to buy a game or they will go elsewhere.
I'll keep an eye on this thread to see how long - if ever - it takes to get this sorted out.

I think EA want us to use any store but Origin to buy games. Basically they don't want us to buy their stuff. I mean, why else wouldn't they make it nice and easy like everyone else does?

Popping in to throw my complaint on this one in. We mainly play the sims on Origin and finally decided to dive in and buy thes Sim 4. Like when we bought Sims 3 my hope was to dive in and buy the main game + most if not all of the expansions in a single transaction. With the way origin currently works I am forced to do multiple transactions in order to do this which greatly increases the chances of triggering a fraud alert on my payment system. A digital game purchase often throws red flags to begin with, add that with multiple small transactions and I am stuck on the phone for an hour to get the security hold lifted.
Further when your system is known for creating multiple smaller transactions it makes it harder for people to watch their accounts and see any fraud happening. There is no technical reason for this as I have seen carts enabled for sales. Please do not listen to any consultants that tell you this gains sales, unless of course the goal is to get us to use anything other than origin to buy your games.
The only thing I see when I hover over the game is Learn more and add to wish list..... There is no add to cart. and THIS is one reason why Steam is much better, gamers asking for a simple add to cart button and a year later still waiting....
today I decided to buy sims 4 + expansions and stuff. the multiple purchases one after the other just caused paypal to flag my account for fraud and I can no longer make any more purchases today. with a cart, this wouldn't have even been a thing.

You can buy, add, and subtract as many games as you want to your order, all the games are listed on one easy page, you can see the shopping cart in a lovely pop-up window whenever you want to. Then, most ironically, your credit card is charged by Origin...which is strangely capable of charging multiple games in a single, easy order.
ORIGIN: GET A SHOPPING CART. FOR ALL ORDERS, NOT JUST SALES. THIS ISN'T THE 90s ANYMORE!
What if Amazon in the 90s only let you buy one book at a time? They started with a shopping cart. They're doing ok. They didn't even make a profit for years, but they sure didn't screw themselves by making customers buy one thing at a time. It's insane all the money you're losing.

It's Black Friday weekend and there should be a cart available... there isn't! I've been trying to purchase from your site for over an hour and I can't even buy the games I want separately!! This is beyond frustrating! Fix your site so it is user friendly!
See 8 titles I want, decide to go ahead and purchase. Nope, got to buy these games one at a time. Therefore 8 individual transactions, charge CC or PP 8 times (and probably get accounts suspended for fraud suspicion), then have to deal with 8 friggin emails as well in the inbox. No thank you. To rub salt in the wounds, EA are more than happy to let you add to the single title order a game that they advertise in the checkout.. How about advertise in the checkout the 8 games I want thus allowing me to do this all in one swoop. GOG and STEAM have large amounts of shovelware and last gen games to go through, but at least they have a cart. Mass Effect Andromeda Deluxe? Fifa 18? Wanted them for the PC. Guess I will pick them up used for XB or PS4.
Thank you you saved me, i wanted to buy several kits sims4 but was disapointed, didn't want to use my card several times for games, it's december i've many more important stuff to buy, like foods and presents to that kind of stupid thing i lost so much time looking for a way !! Finally a solution, thank you !! (Sorry for english)
Added something to my shopping cart (A Sims 4 - pre-bundled set of packs) then realized I could build my own bundle. No way to remove the one I added since there is no Shopping Cart so I won't be making any purchases until I have the ability to remove items PRIOR to finalizing the purchase....
