Game bought on GOG and redeemed but registration won't connect

Hi.

I bought the GOG version of Spore last night and successfully redeemed the serial codes at the link https://myaccount.ea.com/cp-ui/redemption/index and it's confirmed registered on my EA account.

When I boot up the game and try to register my EA account I get this :

Is it a server issue?

Do I need to play it only via the EA app for the register to work? Most of the fun is using Sporepedia and it's  infuriating that I can't access it. What is the issue?

Just to check all bases:

Internet is working fine (else I wouldn't be here type this)

Bought the game on GOG (Good old Game Website)

Redeemed all 3 serial codes the Spore, C&C and GA successfully.

Did open the EA app and it shows on the app. Do I have to access / re-download the game on the app to successfully register / connect my account to access Sporepedia or is it an issue on EA's side? (in other words have the GOG copy and a EA downloaded copy?) It appears to give me the option to download without having to re-buy it.

Any help to get the registration working to I can use Sporepedia would be appreciated. Thanks.

my EA username was not the same as my game ID. Registered with the same name as my EA name.

Thank you for your help! you steered my in the right direction. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!

I even found a Galactic Adventure I made back in 2010! Paradise Lost if you want to try it. Basically you explore a planet, find massacred base, then have to get the heck out of dodge when the huge horror that caused it chases you. Enjoy it.

    Thank you again!

  • Typically what can cause this is if you load Spore up too many times, the login system can get confused.

You can attempt to delete the 'Preferences' folder.

This is located by default at: C:\Users\<YOUR USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Spore

Note that the AppData folder is typically hidden. You can research for your specific OS on how to show hidden files and folders. Or do the following if you're on Windows:

Type Windows + R. In the box type '%appdata%' without quotations. You will now be in the AppData folder and can continue.

After you've deleted the folder, attempt to load Spore and login with your account.

That did not work. Still get the same issue. Getting very disappointed and frustrated here. ☹️

Is it a server issue? Been seeing a lot of messages saying to fix the Spore servers.

I just tried to login and I can confirm it works for me.

Could you try logging into spore.com?

Log in with your account and see if it'll let you in. If it does, it should be letting you login to the game as well.

This is an on-going issue that sadly won't be fixed. You can try clearing cookies in your browser. Also switching your browser would work. For me, I can't login using my current browser Brave, so I have to use Microsoft Edge; Your experience would be different. I've found Firefox to be the most reliable.

To get back onto the subject, did you create an account inside the game? There should be a pop-up for the first time, allowing you create an account. Do not click 'login' at the top right if you have not created a Spore account.

If you've already done this, did it create your SPORE account? Do you have a Spore Screen name when you registered?

My registration appears to be recorded as it says I'm already registered but still no connections.

I also tried logging into the spore website with Firefox, Chrome, Edge, and even on my droid phone and I get this:

Really really getting frustrated here. ☹️

Your account is registered, what were the usernames associated with that account if you don't mind me asking?

If you can remember them, try logging in with that associated Spore username inside the game. You can do this by adding a colon along with your username after you've inputted your e-mail. So for example:

    My-email @ hotmail.com:Sharples65

If you can't login this way, try all the other Spore Screennames you've created and see if those work in logging you in.

The reason I ask this is because you can create up to five personas associated with that one e-mail in Spore. I've attached a PNG at the bottom of this post to show you mine.

In the past, did you happen to delete one of these personas or tried to? That can cause accounts to break.
