Key code for Spore "already in use" after I bought it through Steam

I bought Spore and both dlc's through Steam. I will able to link the 2 dlc's to my account, but the base Spore game has a key code that is "already in use", even though i just bought it. I've looked for a long time to solve this and every answer on this site just links you to a help page that tells me to just enter the key code, which doesnt work.
